Occasionally strange but completely addictive, Nintendo's Animal Crossing for the GameCube is not so much a game as a simulation of life on a small town. Players begin the game by setting out to live life on their own in a colorful town, where they are greeted by a seemingly endless supply of things to do and characters to meet. Time passes in Animal Crossing in real-time, as the month, day, season, and time of day matches that of the player's. Holiday seasons come and go in Animal Crossing, just as they would in the real world. Experience the freedom to fish, decorate your house, go bug catching, garden, write letters, and even play original Nintendo NES games in this imaginative, and addictive game. Read less

My childhood

When this came out I spent an entire summer (2002) playing this every single day. My sister had house 2 and friends in my neighborhood had houses 3 and 4. When this came out I spent an entire summer (2002) playing this every single day. My sister had house 2 and friends in my neighborhood had houses 3 and 4. They would sometimes come over and play this when I wasn't even home. I'd get back from school and come home to find them playing my gamecube and fishing for hours trying to complete the museum. That's how addictive this game was. And we'd all get together every Saturday night to get the new K.K. Slider without fail. So many good memories with this one. I never played the later Animal Crossings but imagine nothing will beat this. My first town was absolutely perfect and I never created a new one.

Started playing again. I need to start scanning a few e-Reader cards each week. If anyone still plays and has the ability to share their save file for town travel via train, please hit me up! Love checking out other towns and getting new villagers.

Really ahead of its time! This game is really comforting and is nice when you want to just sit and chill. You can design your home however you want and each of your neighbours are super cute and fun. Also tom nook is funny.

Decided to fire up my GameCube to play a bit of this for the first time in a year and a half. The old Animal Crossing games didn't fuck around with the density of the weeds that grow over your town. Ended up weeding for like an hour I think tonight. It was too late to interact with animals or …

Now to do the same in Wild World...

Charming & Nostalgic

A good game for the time. New and different in that era. Not quite as fun going back as when I was a child, but the fun and comfort this game gave me back then offers comforting nostalgia now, and I still find myself going back from time to time. Some of the best music in the series, some fun …

A good game for the time. New and different in that era. Not quite as fun going back as when I was a child, but the fun and comfort this game gave me back then offers comforting nostalgia now, and I still find myself going back from time to time. Some of the best music in the series, some fun quirks that unfortunately didn't return in later iterations (wishing well/Farley, dump, acres system, etc). There were also some changes for the better in later iterations, but there's just a certain charm about this game, especially if you grew up with it.

I finished all the little errands for Tom Nook and now I'm supposed to talk to the villagers to get new tasks but nobody seems to have anything for me? 🤷

I guess I don't really get the game. Probably not for me.

It's amazing how easily any of the games in this series instantly suck me in. But at the same time, having played this years ago, it really makes me want to finally dive into AC New Leaf.

With a randomly generated town with a variety of different animal neighbors, you truly get a unique gaming experience that you can call your own. That with real time events with rotating seasons, gives players a sense of a developing world within.

On top of the many things that are available to preoccupy your time, a vast amount of customizable options are at your helm, such as clothing and layout of your home, letting you rearrange furniture as you see fit with loads of decor to choose from.

Animal Crossing is a delightful little game that always makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside, and is for sure one of the best games on Gamecube.

Started playing again. One of my only real complaints is that 14 of your 15 villagers are "permanent" with the 15th being the only one that rotates unless you travel by train. I feel like seeing other peoples' towns is a key part of the experience as well so I'm glad I can experience that without having to find people locally who play.

Been playing this game for about a month and a half, I'm not playing regularly everyday but what's happening in the game keeps me coming back.

the Villagers literally keeps trolling me for not playing the game so often, and some of them are like "bruh go back to where you came from we don't know you".

OK, think I"m done with this. It's pretty cool, but soon I'm gonna make a consistent effort into The Sims and maybe Stardew Valley. I'd like to take up a life simulation game to play "forever" now and then, and those have more depth.

The modt influential game I've ever played in my life. This game shaped me.

Pros: surprisingly engrossing, emulated full NES games, very large variety of household objects

Cons: real-time clock limits daily activities without internal clock changing, limited to one villager playing at a time

Cons: real-time clock limits daily activities without internal clock changing, limited to one villager playing at a time

Recommendation: despite all the fun I had with Animal Crossing, I can't give it over 3 stars due to the improvements of the sequels (aside from the lack of NES games). Try out one of the newer Animal Crossing games, they are essentially the same base game, but with added wi-fi connectivity.

I got this as a Christmas present for my sister several years ago, hoping it would kind of be like Harvest Moon. I should have just gotten Harvest Moon instead... although it's definitely fun in it's own right, it's extremely repetitive. It's in real time as well, so there's a lot of waiting around. If you buy something in the store, they only add one of that type of item a day (one piece of furniture, one carpet, etc), so you have to either wait until the next day to see a new item, or you have to skip ahead on the clock, which requires you to reset your 'Cube, go back into the menu, and change the clock. It's fun, but it's a game that I only go in and play every once and a while when I don't want to play anything else.
