Maximum Action: A game with maximum potential for maximum enjoyment.

Have any of you ever had that thought in your head where you were this action hero badass? You are doing these over the top, insane tricks to kill those that obstruct your path just like guys like John Wick, James Bond, Neo, and my favorite, Killer Bean. I have, and Maximum Action is a game where you can play that dream in a video game.

With it's influence from action movies of old, you get to customize your character and name the studio making these movies. I named my guy Keanu Reeves because I'm creatively bankrupt and I named my studio Wholesome Redditors 100 Studios because the popular meme subreddits percieve Keanu as our Lord that will delete Fortnite and TikTok from existence.

The most surprising thing about Maximum Action is the amount of mechanics the game offers. Dual wielding any weapon whether it be shotgun + sniper, pistol + light machine gun, or cleaver + katana is possible. The kick not only damages enemies, but it disarms them, kicking the floor can get you back up or kicking a wall can move you and give you a bit more control of gunfights. It can also kick doors to …

It can also kick doors to do dramatic entrances so you know that this is a good game. Throwing your weapon disarms and stuns enemies. And you can also throw knives, cleavers, and katanas to instantly kill enemies. The dive is another jump that can be done in any direction in sacrifice of air control. The slow motion mechanic fits well at home with this type of game being based around performing choreography in an action movie. It really makes youfeellike Neo from The Matrix: Reloaded.

A familiar vibe I got from the game is Goldeneye 64. With its low poly models and the silenced pistols and MP5 sounding almost identical to those in Goldeneye.

Unfortunately, for as fun and interesting as Maximum Action is, I did give this game 3 stars for a couple of reasons. Since the game was mostly developed by one person, chances are, there will be jank, and Maximum Action is a janky ass game. There is a replay feature where you can watch yourself in third person playing the level. The catch here is that it is buggy. Duplicate items on top of each other, animations are incomplete. Textures in general are very glitchy. It even tanked my beefy PC to like 2 frames per second so you know that this is buggy. This feature appeared a while ago so I don't get how it's not fixed yet after more than a year. It's also obvious to see enemies pop-in. The biggest issue for me is that even if it is in early access, not much has beem updated.

For a $15 game, Maximum Action contains 9 levels which can be finished within around 3-5 minutes each. So as of January 19th, 2021, I'd say wait for things to be polished out. I hope that George Mandell gets a team of developers that share his creative ideas because this game has a ton of untapped for a great indie title.
