Waited waaay too long to finally play through this game! My aversion to motion controls kept me away from the Wii for many years (despite CAMPING OUT FOR IT outside of a Best Buy when it first launched), but I'm glad I forced myself to learn the proper control techniques. This was the most fun I've had with a Mario game since Mario 64, and although Odyssey was great fun, I missed having to work hard for Stars. That's the best way I can put it - working hard for Stars makes Mario feel a lot more rewarding. While Odyssey threw Stars at you at a rate of, at times, 1 per every thirty seconds, Galaxy sees you moving throughout levels, figuring out several puzzles, you name it.
The controls are definitely not perfect but the Wiimote wagging is actually kind of fun and satisfying when used to pick up Star Bits. The main issue I ran into was the "reverse" gravity when you ran underneath a planet. Controlling Mario upside down was an exercise in frustration. Eventually I pressed on and got through the several hurdles that were thrown at me.
I'm holding off on playing Galaxy 2 (which I hear fixed a ton of the issues and is one of, if not the, highest rated game on the Wii) as there are many rumors about Switch re-releases/remasters from the Mario franchise coming out this year, but I'm super happy I finally jumped into Galaxy. It was an out-of-this-world experience.
