Amnesia Collection is a fantastic collection of horror games that is a must have for horror fans, especially those that prefer terror raised through overall atmosphere rather than in-your-face scares. If you've played SOMA and enjoyed the overall gameplay in it, you'll most likely find something to enjoy in this collection as well since all of these games basically play the same.
Amnesia The Dark Descent review
So this game initially i had talked shit about this game. Saying things such as "Its Boring "Its Not Scary "It sucks" "It ain't good" "another boring hiding game" but after finally deciding to buy it since the collection was on sale for like 2 dollars or 4 after playing it now i can say that the game is great!
Amnesia Dark Descent is a great horror game it doesn't use the boring jump scares everywhere trying to get a cheap scare. It uses atmosphere its soundtracks, its story, and the darkness as its horror element. Darkness is your main enemy in the game.
The story of Amnesia which i won't detail to much is your main character Daniel has Amnesia and hes in this Castle in Brennenburg so he doesn't know how he ended up there why or what things he used to do. He has notes and letters written all in the place and this slowly makes him remember bits and pieces of his life. The game does have voice acting for the letters and memories only, they are pretty good. The story is of mystery and secrets and its very good and …

Gameplay
The gameplay of Amnesia is its first person and there' survival horror to it because there are these tinderboxes you get and all throughout the Castle you will see candles and lamps which you can light with the tinderboxes. You get a lanturn later which you need to fill it with oil to use it. This is important because of the darkness in the game most these areas are dark with no lights and if you stay in the dark for to long your fear and sanity will rise causing your vision to get blurry and move slower and disorient you and can kill you so lighting up candles and lamps is crucial which is why its survival horror because there's only so much resources so you have to use your tinderboxes and lanturn wisely.
There are puzzles in the game and stuff you have to solve. You may have to carry an item and use it somewhere and stuff. I loved the puzzles. It reminded me when Resident Evil was good before its become what it is. Amnesia has an inventory where you use items and mix items together to create another item. You get a healing item called laudaneum, you use key items by using them in your inventory so all this screams Resident Evil. Than there's stuff you can move and open by holding a button like stuff you can lift, you might need a box to jump on to reach somewhere higher to jump on and push something out the way. You can open drawers and cabinets and stuff to search for items. I like how there's a hand icon doing this stuff instead of it just opening without you touching them which is immersion breaking in a lot of games.
The monsters you see are actually used effectively meaning you won't see them often but when you do its for clever parts in the game. They don't overly use the monster to the point where it gets old and you don't care anymore. Its use effectively because when you see the monsters this also increases your sanity so you have to try and hide and stay calm and try to stay in a light source move around them trying to light stuff its good.
My final thoughts for Amnesia Dark Descent is its a great horror game. The darkness being your enemy and you having to use your tinderboxes and lantern wisely is great. The location the Brennenburg castle is awesome with a lot of areas and rooms and backtracking. The puzzles and stuff you solve is very good. The soundtrack is great and the atmosphere is really good. The story of the game is mysterious lots of secrets to uncover of who Daniel is why he got amnesia and what is happening in the world. If Resident Evil 7 or 8 was like Amnesia i would probably like it way more. Amnesia location is just so interesting to explore and uncover. My score for Amnesia dark descent is a 9.
Amnesia Machine for Pigs
This game sucks. I read it was originally intended to be a mod but they made it into the 2nd game and that is exactly what it felt like just an expansion really and not a good one at all. This game kind of killed what Amnesia dark descent was. This game doesnt have the same feel at all and tries its best to be scary and atmospheric but than once you see what they took out you know immediately the game is screwed. Now what they took out you ask? The entire fear and sanity mechanic and you lighting stuff to reduce it. This completely kills the entire game because there is zero consequence for anything. Your lantern never goes out either so you always have light so this whole game is freaking ruined 2 hours in
That's exactly when i lost any type of fear or gave a damn about its atmosphere. The monster is a goddamn joke its a mutated pig like is that supposed to scare me? I literally just started running through everything and i beat this shit in 5 hours and im talking on a blind playthrough where you don't know anything. There is also no inventory system and the game handholds you and the puzzles are a damn joke there just layed out for you so the items you have to find are just right in front of you. The main thing they use to try and scare you is the place shaking and voices and the main characters memories that's it. Also half way through the game i swear you climb so many goddamn ladders and go up so many elevators i got so damn tired of it i wanted if the game to end and felt it just dragged on and on more ladders and more elevators it was terrible.
The story not even gonna lie and say i understand it at all but i didn't really care because the story ain't saving this game. The location isn't great either.
Final thoughts for Amnesia Machine for Pigs
it sucks. this ain't amnesia. My score for it is a 2.
Amnesia the dark descent. A really well done horror game. I can't stress enough how a must have is for horror fans, especially H.P. Lovecraft fans. This game is done with passion and a respect for the genre. A machine for pigs, well, mostly narrative. Interesting but not to be compared with Dark Descend. Justine dlc, still, cannot compare with Dark Descend. Conclusion: wait for sale.
Dark Descent was a nice atmospheric, creepy game. I'm not super into horror games, but I can see why people would love it.
Justine was awful. It's short, but not having a save feature combined with a couple of really annoying encounters sent me back to the start a few times. Playing it two more times to get the different live/die trophies is the only thing standing between me and a platinum and I simply do not care.
I thought Machine for Pigs was just some rather lengthy DLC until I came on here and saw it was a sequel. It wasn't as long, creepy, or interesting as Dark Descent. It added basically nothing and took away some mechanics, hence me thinking it was DLC. I can only imagine how many people were disappointed when it came out.
