Welp, what was going to become a review:

Welp, what was going to become a review:

Oooo Black Knights as strongest enemies, reminds me of early Runescape. This seems really well-developed, like a Dragon Warrior-inspired JRPG before it was released. I realize people would compare it to Ultima and WIzardry, but for me, early Ultima games just did not have this feel of adventure, collecting rare items just for fun at a certain point in the game, or uh, "doability'--as in able to actually be beaten without me stressing so much lol. I dunno. I suppose I felt this way going into the first few Ultimas, with their rare items and non-linear open RPG gameplay exciting me, but then the actual gameplay was too much a chore. We shall see with this one.

Omg it was such a chore to find a proper working version, but at last! Let's hope it was all worth it (definitely stalled my backlog process for several days when I got to Phantasie II and realized I never played the first one)

Ugh as per usual the rolling process was a chore. And sadly navigating the world map was tedious, the battle system--as cute as it was to have so many options--was tedious.. yea, I dunno what's going on with me, but RPGs just haven't been clicking since the PLATO ones. What was different about those that got me to push through their extreme difficulty?! They certainly were more fast-paced, to-the-point, and less tedious... hmm maybe that's the clincher for me? CRPGs do love their length and tedium...

Kinda like early Ultimas where this is a game I find the idea of and reading about more enjoyable than actually playing... Boo. I wasted like a week trying to get it to work, reading about the best party and finding maps, trying to find time to play it... I'm more disappointed in myself than the game: it does a great job of having the descriptive flyers, the open world a la Ultima, the clever puzzles... Argh, maybe some day I will return to it
