It's off-putting..

The nitty gritty rawness of Verdun keeps it from being a wholly enjoyable game. The mechanics are clunky with many game/match-breaking glitches and overall, I felt that it lacking something. The style/gimmick of WW1, though refreshing only goes so far when the dwindling number of players and the awkward game mechanics get in the way.

Verdun is Dutch for dilute

Intro

Verdun is a fairly realistic FPS in which you will usually fight in the trenches in 64-player battles.

The Good

  • Comes across as extremely authentic in terms of setting.
  • Smoke, gas and artillery aren't utterly obnoxious (looking at you, Day of Infamy).
  • Hitting people is hard.
  • Quick respawn.
  • Squad respawn.

The Bad

The Bad

  • Very little difference between weapons.
  • No vehicles or weapon emplacements.
  • At least one sub-class has no gun, just a shovel and three grenades. What?
  • All the battlefields look the same even after just 2 hours.
  • Seemingly weak player base of only a little over 2000.

Conclusion

Verdun seems to be a game for WW1 enthousiasts. If you just want a multiplayer FPS you'll probably prefer something with more variation like Battlefield. Verdun is very realistic but also very basic.
