I just lost interest

  • Playtime: 5h45m

  • Played 2026

  • Context: I don't really like these kinds of adventure games but this looked quirky.

Intro

In Kraken Academy you are a student at said school. It turns out the world is ending in a few days so the titular kraken gives you a time travel button that puts you back at day 1 while retaining freed spirits. You have to join all four classes to free their spirit to save the world.

The game itself is just typical adventure stuff. Walk around, interact with/pick up things, talk to people, do quests, etc.

The Good

  • Some fun weird characters like broccoli girl.
  • I didn't have to look anything up until several hours into the game.
  • Cute graphics.
  • Essentially no fail state.
  • The overall tone is quite nice.

The Bad

  • You have to hold Shift to run for almost the entire game.
  • Some minor grinding.
  • As is typical for the genre, there is some moon logic.
  • Save points.
  • Minor annoyances like having to open doors constantly.

The Ugly

  • Keyboard-only controls that are kinda bad.
  • They expect you to find a hidden area that is not indicated at all.

Conclusion

I honestly expected to dislike this and uninstall it quickly, but it kept me entertained for quite a while. But then it got a bit to complicated/convoluted for my brain that is just not wired for this kind of thing. When i tried to get back into it after a month it was just hopeless and i gave up - i didn't want to follow a guide anymore.

Kraken Academy!!’s strengths are largely skin deep, let down by the lack of focus and care put into its gameplay and story. Amusing, quirky characters may keep you going for a while, but this isn’t a game you really want to be stuck in as time loops repeatedly.

Loved the game! Would play it again if there was DLC.

I LOVED the game. Of course it's a little short, and the game mechanics are simple, but in my opinion is for the better, this is not a giant game, but what it lacks in lengh and depth it makes up in charisma and enjoyment!

I 100%'d this game and enjoyed every second of it. If you like indie games …

I 100%'d this game and enjoyed every second of it. If you like indie games you will really like it. It's a loop-game so you can do the same days over and over until it's done. I liked each character history and personality and would play it again if there was a DLC for it!
