I got this game as part of the Humble Spooky Horror Bundle 2019. It is a good game which I enjoyed quite a bit, especially since it provided that spooky, creepy atmosphere and disturbing story without the pants-sh*tting scariness that a scaredy cat like me would be too afraid to face (that's a matter of personal preference of course). But I found some of the gameplay to be lacking - it was more like an interactive story than a game although there was enough interactivity to keep me interested. There were some puzzles/mysteries you needed to solve to progress, but some were so simple that I was actually disappointed when I solved them because I expected there to be more to them. There were also places I expected there to be puzzles, like machines with knobs you can turn and books/items that I expected to be some kind of clue, which never came of anything (although to be fair I haven't completed the game 100% so maybe they do actually do something and I just haven't gotten that far. However I finished the main story of the game so they aren't necessary for that.) I understand if the game was …

I understand if the game was meant to be more of an interactive story than a true game with puzzles and objectives, but the way it played out for me with inconsistent levels of problem-solving throughout is why I choose to make this criticism and take off a star.
That said, I gave the game a four-star rating because I did thoroughly enjoy it - even as just an interactive story it holds up. The historical context was intriguing and I was able to emotionally invest myself in the character and the story. There are a few questions left unanswered that I expect I'll get answers to if I continue playing to gather all the extras and such, so I won't knock the game for that. The fact that there is more to play after finishing the main story is also a plus.
I'd say the element of the game that stood out most to me were the parts where the interactivity of the story, though not requiring any puzzle-solving or skill from the player, really put you in the character's shoes in a terrifying way. My heart rate actually increased as I found myself strapped to a table without being able to do anything except look around at the figures looming over me, among other scenarios. But like I said, I'm kind of a scaredy-cat when it comes to games, so I can't guarantee the same impact for everyone.
If you were thinking about picking up this Humble Bundle, I would say it's worth it for just this game on the first price tier. It's nice to sit down to on a dark and stormy night and experience the dread and creepiness in an (ironically) more relaxing way than with most horror games.
