In Monument Valley, the player leads the player-character princess Ida through mazes of optical illusions and impossible objects, which are referred to as "sacred geometry" in-game, as she journeys to be forgiven for something. The game is presented in isometric view, and the player interacts with the environment to find hidden passages as Ida progresses to the map's exit. Each of the ten levels has a different central mechanic. Interactions include moving platforms and pillar animals, and creating bridges. The player is indirectly cued through the game by design elements like color, and directly cued by crow people, who block Ida's path. Critics compared the game's visual style to a vibrant M. C. Escher drawing and Echochrome. The game includes a camera mode where the player can roam the level to compose screenshots. It includes filters à la Instagram. Read less

Maurits Cornelis Escher: The Game

I only played this for 15 minutes because this is not my thing at all, but i could still appreciate the clever puzzles, beautiful visuals and pleasant music. Escher would probably have loved this. Normally a game i don't enjoy gets 3 stars at most, but this is the extremely rare exception where i give it 4 stars. This has happened only once or twice before i think.

'We've Been A Little Bit Too Romantic About The Idea That We Should Have Employees And Give People Long-term Job Security' Is An Extraordinary Thing For A Video Games CEO To Say On Record

Noteworthy: Maria Sayas, quoted above in her role as CEO of us two, is also the Chair of UKIE (UK Interactive Board) the trade body for the games industry in the UK. Job security is good enough for her, but not so much for her employees.

An OK game to pass time on my phone.

Scrolled through Netflix-games to find something casually to play on breaks etc. This seemed like a good fit, easy to pick up and play a level or so.

Works great on the phone and it was a okay game to pass time during breaks, nothing special really. I saw that both Monument Valley 2 and 3 included in the Netflix-subscription. Maybe I will test them out later and hope they have improved the games.

This was a relaxing yet brain teasing puzzle game that really surprised me. The puzzles build upon the one that came before, teaching you all the moves and aspects of the physics and layout that are possible to be manipulated for each level. It is short and sweet and the perfect length in my opinion because the puzzles never get to the point where they feel repetitive. With the addition of a charming and subtle story this game is definitely worth playing!

wholesome and atmospheric puzzle experience. monument valley is honestly one of the most calm and soothing games i've ever played so far. the game is quite relaxing gameplay wise and probably none of the puzzles will overheat your brain at all. overall it's a pretty simple and short game, but the simplicity is working just so well. the puzzles are mostly easy and reasonable, yet so intelligent. the animations are insanely good - it's always a pleasure to watch things happen and witness the ever changing levels of this vast and almost lifeless world of shapes. the art style and art direction is quite something, yet again simple but effective and the panoramic edition provides some impressive views. kinda unbelievable this was a mobile game, yet here we are. immersive gem of a game in any regard and a must play! even more so if you share any love for simple puzzle and/or atmospheric casual games.

If it looks like something you might like you may enjoy it, and I did, but it does feel lacking in content. But this game is visually gorgeous and really smartly designed. It just feels a bit lacking to me in content. Check it out if you're interested.

enter image description here

enter image description here

Monument Valley is a triumph of mobile gaming.

Technically a puzzle game, the solutions are never so difficult that you'll bang your head over them - rather, they gently ramp up in difficulty. I say "technically" because it was much more of a meditative, introspective experience than a straightforward puzzle game. Something to play after coming home from a hard day at work, lights off, lying on the couch, the music playing over a bluetooth sound system.

And the music! Beautifully composed ambient and downtempo that perfectly compliments the soft, warm artwork done in the styles of M.C. Escher and inspired by middle eastern architecture. The whole thing has a mystical, otherwordly feel that seems to exist in a sort of dream logic, something that could only live on the edges of consciousness.

If it isn't obvious, I absolutely adored Monument Valley. I feel that it represents the pinnacle of mobile gaming that can only be achieved with a focused vision and a keen understanding of aesthetics. It is short, yes, but done intentionally so by the developers to have a condensed, contained experience. The puzzles can be on the simple side, but to me it was much more about the feeling and emotion the game evoked than any sort of game mechanics. I'm looking forward to whatever Ustwo ends up putting out next.

This is a simple puzzle game - twist a Escher-esq building around to create a path so the main character, Ida, can walk to the exit. It is delivered with a lovely simple art style, and soothing music. There is a little plot, but it is mostly about the atmosphere. A lonely princess wandering around old buildings. Just sit and unwind with a cup of tea. It's a lovely diversion for a Saturday afternoon.

Controls are smooth, the puzzles get challenging, but we're always solvable without Google. Some annoying birds will block you, but there is no death, timing challenges, or traps.

It's refreshing because it is a "real" game for mobile. You'll pay for the game, but no ads, annoying in-game currency, unlock timers, connect to friends for help etc. The makers had a creative vision, and did it.

It also ends. There is no infinite progression. There aren't thousands of levels. And it's short, I finished in about 4 sittings. (Although there are a few extra levels unlocked at the end, and a $1.99 DLC with more levels in it) The shortness will be the number one complaint online, but how messed up is our hobby that we insist everything continues until we're sick of it?

Buy it, it is cheap enough, and you are supporting the way mobile games should be.
