The music is great and the graphics is what drew me towards a game like this. This game is like baby's first metroid. It is extremely cute and the puzzles/powerups are fun for the short while the game is worth. I got stuck a few times but never for more than a few minutes.
Definitely worth your money and time. More games like these need to be developed with a more power up and kill central vibe. Not a whole lot of fun like this to be had in any other games on the 3ds.

I almost quit playing in the first 30 minutes due to the controls. In particular, you jump the same height no matter how long you hold the jump button down (as opposed to a game like Mario where the duration of the press affects the height of the jump). This was incredibly annoying when trying to avoid enemies and maneuver platforms. Once I started getting upgrades, however, the game became tolerable.
It wasn't all bad. The exploration was interesting at times, though sometimes tedious since you can walk through some walls, but without any indication in the environment. So then you just go around trying every single wall. The bosses are all the same sprite, just with added abilities each time you fight it. I wish there had been more variety. Luckily the whole thing only lasted a little more than 3 hours, otherwise, I probably would have abandoned it.
The switching planes and phasing abilities were cool in concept, but I never felt like they were used in a satisfying or interesting way.
If you see video reviews of this game and think it could be interesting like I did, I'd wait for another 99 cent sale.
I finished Xeodrifter last weekend and.... it was ok for the $0.99 I paid for it.

A fun romp. Very short. Must have beat it in less than 3 hours.
Very metroidian.
