Initial thoughts:

  • The hit rates in this game are sickeningly low
  • Bosses are unreasonably hard to kill
  • Roy is actually good
  • Nothing about the characters/story/supports/maps is really grabbing my interest, it's a slog so far

Not sure if I'll make it to the end at this rate. Definitely on track to be the worst FE game.

That said, I've slowly been playing through the "Project Ember" rebalance mod and I can't recommend it highly enough!

It doesn't fix the awful story, but just about everything else has been changed for the better. Maps have been altered to resolve a few turns faster and have seen most of their bullshit ambushes removed. Roy, armor knights, and all the other useless characters have been made viable and given unique niches, so there are actual decisions to make when it comes to teambuilding. Archers have 3 attack range by default and are great for sniping mages. Just a bunch of smart little changes all around, which take a tepid game and turn it into one of the more enjoyable titles in the series.

This game is ppaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnffffffffful

enemies popping out of nowhere and moving the same turn behind enemy lines with no warning, bosses on thrones that can only be hit 1/3 times even with overpowered units. Fates was obnoxious because it gave you a million options but made only 1 strategy viable. This is just tedious...
