I played Beneath a Steel Sky: Reforged on the Nintendo Switch. I had tried the original around its earlier release but never fully finished it, and even now I still don’t really connect with it. I generally like Revolution Software because of the original Beneath a Steel Sky, but this title never quite worked for me.

The Reforged edition is technically well done and polished, but I actually prefer the old pixel art style. The updated visuals feel too smooth and sterile in places, with very sharp edges and a somewhat artificial look that loses some of the original charm. I also didn’t enjoy the main character much, and many of the puzzles felt more frustrating than satisfying.

Overall, I’m not very enthusiastic about the game, but I’m glad I revisited it in its updated form so I can finally check it off my backlog. It just isn’t my kind of adventure game.
