Childhood classic
This review is for the PC (Microsoft Windows) version

Story: The story is the same as the one in the movies but adapted to remove any more adult themes like murder generally in a funny way fitting for the child demographic it was meant for. I appreciate that they did pick the main parts of the movies for the levels while the additional detail put in the world building to make the world alive and progressing as you play through the years. The cutscenes were simple but funny though I wish maybe more character development was shown through them.

Music: Not much to say about this other than it had the main themes of the films as well with quite fitting background music. Though I feel like more could have been done with this.

Gameplay: Probably one of the better aspects of the game was the progression of getting different characters with unique characteristics and spells as you progress through the years making the main puzzle solving aspect of the game fresh. Though slightly irritating in the aspect of some things were locked off due to not having the spell making you having to come back later.

Though slightly irritating in the aspect of some things were locked off due to not having the spell making you having to come back later.

Collection This was very fun and varied having gold bricks, students in peril, character tokens, red bricks all with their own benefits to collecting. I appreciate the red bricks help unlock "extras" which made 100% the game possible through the detectors and studs multipliers but there are a few glitches with the studs sadly. And with all the gold bricks you get to play an extra level which was about the time when Harry was a baby which was a nice touch though confusing to put at the end of the game. As for extra levels the 10 prior extra levels were good puzzles but seemed extremely lazily put together like the free build mode but ig it was just an extras so I can forgive them for that. Though no tracker for students in peril was criminal and kinda forced me to use the internet because I was going insane LOL.

Overall: I would say how they portrayed the story in a funny child friendly way was superb and that the game mechanics were greatly done with the spells and character specific abilities. Music was done to the standard I had though maybe a little more could have been done like a more varied soundtrack. As for the collection of the aspect, it was done in depth and often had me discovering new aspects of the world. I missed going through the main story but the bugged trackers and no trackers for students in peril are probably my biggest gripes with the game.

Harry Potter and the PC bug

Played the PC version.

The game itself is fun, especially in cooperative with a friend but man the bugs and crashes are too much sometimes.

I think that the game crashes or has a really bad bug every 20 minutes. I really don't know if it is a problem with the PC version or the console version are equaly bad made.

I have to restart the game 5 times to get the controls to work. The controls freezes so many times. You press pause and the control freezes and you can't do nothing to fix it except to close the game and then open it again.

Even has a really bad bug that make you getting stuck in a stage in the year 3 because of a problem with some statues. You have to manually edit the configuration file in your PC.

But if you can ignore all that, the game is good (at least for a lego game) and has good replay value due to the unlockable characters and skills that make you replay the leves in order to get the 100%

AlexKar's review of LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4

I have a ton of fun with this game. The levels are great and of course the free map thing is just so fun too. It ain't a great game, but I do enjoy this a ton and I think it is one of the best Lego games.

i don't know how to feel about lego harry potter games. They all are kinda meh to me. Hogwarts as the main hub is still the best thing about it.

I had a bug in year 7 that basically couldn't be worked around, never could finish the game.

Quite fun. The DS as well as the console version.

This is one of the more fun LEGO games I've played. I've played LEGO The Lord of the Ring before this and thought like "Woah, imagine the Gandalf magic in a whole game!". It became boring after a while. The puzzles and extra characters more than made up for it. I liked the DS version too and is best played on PSP. And since emulators become somewhat the only way to play them, the PSP version feels that much smoother. I liked the limited movement designed for the hardware. It was extraordinaire.
