I saw Hedon in a fanatical bundle the other day and figured I'd give it a spin.

I've kept my eye on the whole Boomer Shooter movement, but I've never actually pulled the trigger on playing one. I'm just not as into FPSes as I used to be, and my nostalgia for the era is limited. I played a ton of Dark Forces back in the mid 90s, but Doom and co were not allowed in my household. I'd, of course play, Golden Eye with friends, but I didn't really get into the genre until Halo, which I'd put as the game that really moved FPSes away from the 90s style.

Hedon grabbed my attention with it's large focus on puzzles, lore, and inspiration from classic immersive sims and RPGs. I'm only a couple of hours in, but it honestly feels like an adventure game with occasional Doom style combat, and I dig that. It's a good bridge between my current tastes and the wider genre, and I just might have to try out some other Boomer Shooters when I finish Hedon.
