Building upon and vastly refining the ideas from Codename Eagle, Battlefield 1942 let players engage in infantry combat and get behind the wheel of a variety of vehicles from submarines to battleships and bombers. The game introduced the signature Battlefield rock-paper-scissors gameplay, as well as the exciting “Battlefield Moments” people refer to when talking about their unique and unscripted experiences within the multiplayer game.

Yes, I played the original Battlefield!

Guys, I did the unthinkable! I got a physical copy of Battlefield 1942 on Ebay, and I also got a CD ROM for my PC (because those don't come in the PC anymore). I finally started my journey to playing all the Batlefield titles that are available right now. Wish me luck!

Guys, I did the unthinkable! I got a physical copy of Battlefield 1942 on Ebay, and I also got a CD ROM for my PC (because those don't come in the PC anymore). I finally started my journey to playing all the Batlefield titles that are available right now. Wish me luck!

Anyways, this is also my first FPS game that I play with mouse and keyboard. This game was released only for PC and there is no controller support, at least not that I could find. In conclusion, this has been a very educational experience: learning abot the origins of the franchise and also how to play on mouse and keyboard. (Oh, and how to install mods, which I didn't know how to do before).

I must admit that I did struggle with the game a lot in the beginning, but I am not blaming the game. I just didn't know how to control anything. Little by little I started to get "used" to it, kind of. I only played the campaign for noth the Allies and the Axis, so this review is not about the online multiplayer.

The maps of the games are based on real battled that happened during WWII. They are big, and very well planned. They really give you the chance to play the map however you want: pilot, infantry, tanks, boats, almost anything. The gameplay never got boring or dull, except sometimes the AI was very dumb, but we will get to that later.

As for graphics, I cannot review the original version, because I did install mods to make the game playable in my PC and to look better. So, graphically, it looks pretty good for a 2022 game. The controllers feel smooth as soon as you get used to them. The sound of the game is very simple, too quiet I must say. Very quiet for a battlefield. But I am guessing that back then you couldn't complicate things too much, like there limitations.

The only thing I must point out is that get ready mentally if you plan to play this game with the AI. They are dumb. They would take tanks and just park and do nothing. They would not push when the team has to. They would just prone or crawl all the time. So yeah, AI.... just make fun of it and you'll be fine. As a desclaimer, I had to play the campaign on easy. Maybe I am just a horrible gamer, but also, the stupid decisions of the AI did not help at all. There is only so much you can do as a single player in this game.

Next, the expansion Road to Rome.

Good game but not the greatest thing ever

Good game but not the greatest thing ever like the magazines state. The internet opponents are just too good for the casual player. I will keep it around but I am not sure for how long. Good for local multiplayer though.
