Read moreAvoided this for many years mostly since everything it has going on aesthetically and vibe-wise was deeply unappealing, but it reached a point where I wanted to try it since I felt like it was one of the more significant games I hadn’t touched, and luckily it got very cheap in the Steam sale. I can see the appeal pretty quickly, easy to understand and interact with at a base level but packed with all kinds of different items and encounters to learn, very legible, really hard but lean and fast-paced in a way that could keep you going. Basically it’s good at being a roguelike for both the player and for spectators. But the action itself, while somewhat interestingly challenging I guess in its limitations on what directions you can shoot in, doesn’t feel all that fun on first impression. Combine that with my lack of interest in the sort of gross and macabre flash animation style it has going on and it’s a tough sell to push through the challenge, but I could see myself playing it again due to its apparent solid execution of this formula and how easily you could pick it up to try a few runs and see some unexpected stuff.
