The game has received four expansions adding characters, floors, items, co-op multiplayer, modding support, and online play. Inspired by the biblical story of the same name and its designer's religious upbringing. Read less

Avoided this for many years mostly since everything it has going on aesthetically and vibe-wise was deeply unappealing, but it reached a point where I wanted to try it since I felt like it was one of the more significant games I hadn’t touched, and luckily it got very cheap in the Steam sale. I can see the appeal pretty quickly, easy to understand and interact with at a base level but packed with all kinds of different items and encounters to learn, very legible, really hard but lean and fast-paced in a way that could keep you going. Basically it’s good at being a roguelike for both the player and for spectators. But the action itself, while somewhat interestingly challenging I guess in its limitations on what directions you can shoot in, doesn’t feel all that fun on first impression. Combine that with my lack of interest in the sort of gross and macabre flash animation style it has going on and it’s a tough sell to push through the challenge, but I could see myself playing it again due to its apparent solid execution of this formula and how easily you could pick it up to try a few runs and see some unexpected stuff.

Gross pre-review score of 8.4/10 TBoI was arguably one of the most influential indie titles of the 2010's. Rebirth is just as deep and aggressively addictive, plus it adds a ton of new content. Visuals and performance are also improved on the jankier flash original.

I reckon I played 100 hours of the original game, back at a time in my life where I was most definitely not in control of my mental illness. Something about the punishing difficulty level, piles of sh*t and mutated fetuses mirrored my state of my mind and calmed me down somehow...

But anyhoo I occasionally drop into Rebirth and it's still great, but I miss the raw edges. It's just not the same somehow. Or maybe I'm just too chemically balanced now lol.

Super fun! Satisfies a certain itch thanks to dungeon randomization and variable reinforcement via items. FINALLY got through a full cycle and beat mama after countless hours.

Still more characters to unlock but feel good about moving on. Will return someday.

I keep returning to this awsome game, it's so satisfying. Nothing gets the adrenaline pumping like finishing of some boss while being near death. Brings back the feeling of beating death in the first castlevania, or the yellow devil in mega man. Good times :)

I know I said I was going to stream this weekend, but I ended up just playing on my Vita the whole time because laying on the couch is pretty sweet. Holy shit I spent a lot of time with it. I went from thinking I'm bad at video games to thinking I'm probably the best video gamer, then back to being the worst in the span of about 3 hours.

I did get through the first couple rounds of bosses though. I need to get that forum going so we can have long detailed conversations about this stupid game.

I don't have much experience with the previous version of The Binding of Isaac. Last night I got probably the best combo I've ever gotten, unbreakable (once you stand still for a second, nothing can hit you) and mind control tears (you have one tear, and you can move it around the room anywhere). I still couldn't beat mom. I …
