The Legend of Dragoon is a Japanese-style RPG, visually reminiscent of Final Fantasy VII (pre-rendered backgrounds, 3D characters and battle scenes, CG animations to advance the story). Battle mechanics follow the traditional turn-based prototype, with a few additions such as critical attacks dependent on precise timing, and "dragoon" transformations, which allow access to powerful techniques. This is one of my favorite games from childhood, played it so much etc etc. I don't really remember the soundtrack, but I just read that Takeo Miratsu was one of the composers. Jumping Flash! Loved the Jumping Flash tunes! Makes me even more excited for when I get to this game

I keep floundering between “this game isn’t very good” and “ehhh this game isn’t so bad”. The saving graces are the addition system and the story which has drawn me in as I’ve continued playing. Lots of problems with it though.

Fired this up last night and played for about an hour. I love timed-attacks in RPGs. Woof this dialogue is bad though. Maybe I took the "Sony's FFVII Killer" allegations a little too seriously. Gotta dial back my expectations a bit.

Solid characters and story, along with a slight twist on traditional rpg battle mechanics. Enjoyed the environment and characters. The battle animations for the more powerful spells are longggggg. Would be a great candidate for a remake, as the major drawback is PS1 jankiness in the mechanics and graphics.

Parts of this game are really great, and I like some of the concepts it tries, but I am finding the combat incredibly shallow. Between active combat and the dragoon system, there isn't much choice in how you build or tool up your party. When I compare it to other JRPGs I have played its combat really is disappointing.

However, the Dragoons themselves are pretty cool, the story is decent so far, and I have liked enough to keep chugging along.

I didn't play this game until recently, despite growing up with Playstation RPGs. This certainly copied a lot from FF7, but the Dragoon system was an awesome addition. It took me awhile to get used to the timed attack system, but once I did, I enjoyed the battles.

Finished the game again, after almost 20 years... worth every moment and still lives up to the amazing nostalgia. One of the great true gems.
