This was really fun. Such a simple idea, and the game engine technology was so obviously just waiting for an idea like this. I think a lot of the writing was pretty great, with some exceptions. Good puzzles. I don’t think it’s much more than the sum of its parts though, despite what the game kind of implies. Why does everyone have to try to make their game so “woahhhh”, it’s good just as a simple game!! Anyways, definitely worth checking out.
A Chinese detective game with original mechanics, letting you play the detective role by examining past cases and finding answers behind the outcome. This game requires you to use your hearing and logical deduction in order to make progress.
The gameplay had me totally engaged and had me spend from half to a few hours to come down to correct conclusions. And when I was approaching the answer, the more baffled and amused I am by the nature of the cases that reveals itself (and I'll let you figure it out by yourself if you're interested in Unheard). By my skill level and patience of a backlog gamer, I managed without a guide until the last case (and the free DLC).
I warmly recommend this unique game that's been written and coordinated with care, despite the voice acting sounding spotty. Then again, that may be the intention to distinguish the characters.
I picked this up on the Steam Summer sale for under $5, and yet the normal price of $6.99 is already an absolute steal for how enjoyable this game is. Each level presents you with a 5-15 minute audio clip of a mystery you can only solve by listening carefully to dialogue between characters and the background side effects. This isn't done in a dull way, however, as you actually have a character you use to move around from room to room in order to listen to different voices throughout the map. I ended up filling several pages of notebook paper with notes before actually solving each mystery, all written so cleverly that you may think you've solved it while missing one big secret twist. It's a treat for the senses and I highly recommend it!
I really give this a 3.5/5.
This game is clever, sure. It successfully sows enough seeds of doubt that the ending makes you go, 'ahhhh I get it now.' The only problem is the execution. If you are patient enough to listen to the same thing over and over again then this game is for you. There isn't enough interactive elements for the player and so I found myself a little bored and frustrated, skipping through a lot of the story once I'd gone through it a couple times already.
Having said that, it's a clever premise so thumbs up for the creativity and the voice acting.
