NES Lookback - Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
This review is for the Nintendo Entertainment System version

One of the things I appreciate about old school NES is that video game developers tried ideas out. Some of them worked, many did not, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is one of the ones that infamously did not.

Based off of the literary classic, you play the aforementioned Dr. Jekyll, who is going about his day. He is bombarded by all sorts of people and creatures, and only has his cane to swing to defend himself. Eventually, if you get hit enough, you transform into Mr. Hyde. The setting turns dark and you move in the opposite direction. You have super strength and now can defend yourself more easily. However, those "lessons" are hard to show on a limited 8-bit NES game. There are definitely some ambitions ideas on this game, and I think on the right platform, this could have been interesting and unique, but instead you …

There are definitely some ambitions ideas on this game, and I think on the right platform, this could have been interesting and unique, but instead you get a broken mess that's confusing as well as cheaply difficult.

You might want to pick it up to see how bad this truly is, but I'd only spend about $2.00 or less for it.

Ironically, I had just pulled my VHS of Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde out the other day (not a great movie, but an entertaining one :-p ) and then this comes up next on my backlog :-p Doesn't seem to be well-received tho :-X much like the movie

Also, the irony that this such a derided game yet there is a fan translation of the original Japanese version
