I'd have to be honest, Osmo did not age well. The slow transitions between scenes, while cute at first, became tedious as gameplay went on. Also, (maybe due to the age?) the resolution forced the game to be relatively tiny on my screen, so seeing some of the fine detail was difficult for me.
That out of the way, the game has an endearing quality to it. It is... amusing I think would be the right word. Humorous maybe. In a world of metagaming where we need websites to track our massive game collections (ahem) it was interested that there didn't appear to be a 'goal' per se, at least not one I could find. I just wondered around, taking in what the game had to offer, and then decided I was done when I had visited everywhere. It was refreshing.
All in all it was a fun couple of hours, but if you do not enjoy aging retro graphics or aging UIs, only frustration will you find inside. If you enjoy that sense of nostalgia, spend a couple hours clicking around in 'pre-myst'.
Wow, huge Cyan Worlds bundle over at Humble Bundle and beyond all the Myst games and Obduction it has games like Cosmic Osmo and the Worlds Beyond the Mackerel which makes me very happy. I used to have a Mac Classic with a SCSI drive just to play my copy of the game, so it’s nice to have a Steam copy!
