It's Fire Emblem (Pre 3DS Era) but Mechanically Better
This review is for the PC (Microsoft Windows) version

For anyone who just wants to skip the review and wants to see a score. I gave this game a 3 on Grouvee but I would rather give it a 3.5 if Grouvee would let me. Overall Good Game especially if you're into games like Fire Emblem.

Symphony of War: The Nephilim Saga (SoWtNS) is a Turn-Based Strategy Game made on RPG maker. I will be upfront about it if you play any old Fire Emblem (FE) game (pre-3ds era), you have already experienced most of this game. Now, that isn't a bad thing. This game basically, took all the best parts of Fire Emblem (not the supports or the social sim aspects) and turns it into a very enjoyable experience.

The feature that sets it apart is the unit-building aspect. You see, instead of the normal level up 1 unit to 10~20 and then change them into another class. In SoWtNS, 1 unit is comprised of multiple soldiers reminiscent of "Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen 1993". Each has its stats and classes to upgrade into. You can have a unit full of cavalry soldiers, A team of archers or assassins, or BOTH, a balanced team of …

You can have a unit full of cavalry soldiers, A team of archers or assassins, or BOTH, a balanced team of strong frontline, squishy guys in the middle and range units in the back. What a unit is made of all depends on how you want to build that unit. It allows tons of freedom for the player.

It also solves a lot of issues of previous FE games in terms of quality of life stuff. No longer do you have to be on a trap and repeatedly spam heals on the injured to level up healers or watch as your units fall back on levels and are no longer viable in later chapters. Arenas are more balanced. You have free actions to turn restarts and quick saves if you wish to have an easier time or reload when you messed up your turn. Powers to assist you in combat.

The only issue I have with the game was that it wasn't that strategic, eventually the game comes down to "Increase the number of enemies the player needs to fight" difficulty, and a well-built army can easily overcome that none the less. But this was never a deal breaker. The game does change up enemy unit compositions and formations, making you have to adapt your units' formations in reactions, otherwise, you going to have a decent amount of your units take damage or losses.

I can't say the story was all that good, some elements were interesting but more or less generic. This is just personal, but I didn't like the character art but that's just me. I didn't care for the support either, nothing much happened in them to keep me interested.

I recommend you give this game a shot. It's made with passion and care, it shows in the game.
