I'm continually amazed how well older games look on the Steam Deck, and Blades of Time is another good example of that. A solid third person hack and slash. Great looking environments to play though and questionable wardrobe choice for the main character. I'm generally not a fan of time travel gimmicks, but all the gameplay works out well here. …

Great looking environments to play though and questionable wardrobe choice for the main character. I'm generally not a fan of time travel gimmicks, but all the gameplay works out well here. The only downside is it crashed six hours in and corrupted my save file. I enjoyed the game, but not enough to play through all that again.

@anarchistica's gowing review forgot to mention the epically bad dialogue and voice acting. The protagonist's voice is annoying, incongruous with her efforts, and her lines are all dumb and unnecessary. "Who keeps putting these barriers?" "This is the button, alright", "I wouldn't be surprised to see tourists." Every line of dialogue is cringe inducing and horribly read. But it's so …

But it's so bad that it kind of crosses to the "so bad it's good" category.

Beat on loan from my coworker. After I had finished she offered to sell it to me but I didn't think it was a good enough game. She let me keep it. The biggest problem I had was the vertical look controls being reversed and not able to be changed. I ended up having to look up online how to change the settings on the console to get it to work properly. That's a ridiculous shortcoming for the game. Otherwise it was a reasonably fun game. I don't remember what specific abilities I preferred but I do remember the combat being challenging enough to demand regular use of time rewinding. It really is a badass implementation of time powers. Some of the platforming was annoying and I really appreciated the frequent checkpoint saves to help mitigate all those platforming fails. After beating the game I tried out the multiplayer mode by myself. It was nothing special but decent enough to play for a bit.

6.2/10
