"The player is having too much fun, let's annoy the hell out of him by just constantly trowing a ball at him."

This game is awesome, but sometimes it's also just cheap in it's difficulty.

What's worse than an escort mission? An escort mission where you can only attack using environmental objects.

The combat system is deep and complex but in the end it was too much for me and I never felt compelled to purchase different moves or weapons in the way I have with Ninja Gaiden or other similar games.
Had I not been forced to endure the painfully tedious on-rails sections and I may have had a better time with it but I found it to be quite an uneven playthrough.
It was a decent romp, I'm not compelled to go back and improve on my stone awards but it was an interesting game nonetheless and I'll be checking out the rest of Platinum's releases. Bayonetta just didn't live up to the hype for me.

Combat - great. Style - hell yes. Story - erm... so she's the good guy?

Oh Bayonetta. How I wanted to like you. I may be the only one in the world apparently who didn't understand what was happening in the slightest. Attempting to understand the characters and story in this game was like trying to watch Inception, Momento, Mulholland Drive and Cloud Atlas, all for the first time, AT THE SAME TIME! Attempting to understand the characters and story in this game was like trying to watch Inception, Momento, Mulholland Drive and Cloud Atlas, all for the first time, AT THE SAME TIME! Bayonetta also liked to follow the same routine as its forebears - the Devil May Cry series. You know where the enemies block 99% of your attacks except the one exact ability that they WANT you to use to defeat any give enemy? The ability you hate and can't perform unless you grew up memorizing the combos in every Street Fighter game and 2D brawler arcade cabinet released in the last 20 years. Yeah, that crap. Terrible button mashing garbage. What can I say, the scantily clad heroine must have been what was responsible for selling all those copies. Mash x 4,000 times to destroy 3% of enemies health... so tasteful.
To me, Bayonetta along with Devil May Cry 3 and 4 are of the Difficulty of Dark Souls and Demon's souls put together and multiplied by 10... on roids. And I love Dark souls!
