Main game

ST sounds like a cool idea and has a great aesthetic and feel but it's a bit lackluster in delivery that much. This is a mix between a digital board game and some light elements of a more modern text adventure type game. The three main elements of the game are XCOM inspired: Geoscape, Research, and Tactical. Most of the geoscape consists of moving agents about the 10 or so territories and assigning them actions. The goal is to ultimately research the tech tree the quickest before the clock runs out. Sometimes the game will throw a little event-curveball at you, but it never really gest too wild or has many suprises.
And the Research element is quite basic. You get some perks when unlocking or rewards but it doesn't feel quite as epic as it should in a game that is about transcending humans.

Tactical Events are very similar to Warhammer 40k: Mechanicus, where your actions along the way to the outcome of the event will affect the meta.

Tactival Events are the third element of the game ares pretty good and has quite a bit of variety. TE's occur when 'extracting' (stealing) an enemy scientist. You have to escape the city and every action you take makes a bit of progress. It's very similar to Warhammer 40K Mechanics but the choices you have aren't random they are right and wrong choices based on the skills of your agent.

It seems there are different endings based on your performance, but I didnt really have it in me to go for a second run of this game.
I had higher hopes for this game as it was a neat idea and has some nice bits at times that really convey the mood/atmosphere but it's just not much fun to play
In the end these elements don't quite come together in cohesive feel and there isn't much replayability But it's still a cool looking game and not that difficult to complete really. I found it fairly easy. As long as you aren't aggressive with other countries to make them on high alert you can let them do work for you and eventually steal their research in the end. I managed to roll the clock back to almost 25...
This is free on GOG for the next 46 hours:
This is free on Amazon I see, and reading about it sounds really cool. It's not an XCOM (Doesn't look like a turn based tactical game of any kind) but seems to be a single player digital board game with very curious narrative.
I require more vespene gas.
