I asked my parents to get me this game in a used game store as a child but unfortunately I never got it. Thankfully now I have the chance to try it and unfortunately it's not great. It's about as threadbare as a game can get with gameplay that essentially amounts to holding accelerate and using the occasional item pickups.
I suppose that this game still kept me amused for 10 minutes though and I'm sure I would have loved it as a kid.
I haven't go back to check it out, but as a kid I loved it.
Had this as a kid on PC, now finally beat it.
Hard game to go back to mainly due to the car handling; it's not "bad" per se but significantly more rigid than modern kart racers. Takes some getting used to.
I personally found that it plays best on a d-pad/keyboard, rather than an analogue stick, and with accelerate mapped to a dedicated button instead of "up", so you might want to give that a try if struggling.
Has a lot of character and memorable music, but it's so short and easy (once you realise how broken the green brick boost items are) that's it's hard to give the game more than 2 stars.
Fun for an afternoon.
