Bone Appetit has great reviews on Steam and Metroidvania Review loved it, but I haven't bounced off something so hard in a long time. It's retro in all of the ways I don't like. You have awkward jumping and stiff movement, uninteresting weapons, very basic design etc. Most importantly, save points seem to be few and far between, and you'll run into enemies that can one or two shot you as you explore, leading to a loss of all progress since the previous save point. I also found the sound effects and writing to be very grating, which added an extra layer of agitation.

It's worth noting that the aforementioned review on Metroidvania Review mentioned basically all of the issues I have with the game and warned that it may not be for everyone, and I bought it anyway. Either way, worst 45 minutes I've spent so far in 2023!
