Bought Undertale for an essay for my class, Journalism 1501: Digital Games and Society. Not sure yet how well the essay will go, but I am SO glad I decided to get this game!! I just finished my first playthrough last night, and I'm almost definitely going to try to get the pacifist and genocide endings later, this first time through I got the Papyrus neutral ending. It can be hard for me to get into the lore of games, but when I do I REALLY do (I probably have ADHD and that's probably why, getting tested for that in January HAHAHA), and this was one of those games. So many great characters with interesting personalities, and lore that makes me want to learn more. It's a perfect combination of serious (almost chillingly so at times), and humorous. Just perfect for me.

I just downloaded Undertale from Gamepass so I can play it soon for the first time. I can't stop wondering, though... Is Undertale actually good, or is it just an awful internet meme that became sentient? I keep getting this nagging suspicion that it might be the latter. I don't know why.

Really bounced off this one. I made it a ways into Hotland and just didn't really like that much about the game. The music was good (though overall sound design was meh) and some of the writing was entertaining. That's about all that was a hit for me.

I'm not a big fan of bullet hell even in the best of cases, and Undertale felt a bit under baked to me. The plot wasn't really doing much I care for. Everything just felt slow, too, both pacing and game speed.

Oh well, not everything is for everyone!

Finally decided to give this game a try after watching the Girlfriend Reviews video and realizing it was available on Switch. Finally decided to give this game a try after watching the Girlfriend Reviews video and realizing it was available on Switch. I don't often laugh out loud while playing a video game, if ever, but I find myself constantly smiling and laughing at every line of dialog in this game. I'm only a couple of hours in but so far it's a very cute and unique experience and I can't wait to play more. My wife encouraged me to go for the true pacifist route on my first play so we'll see how it goes.

Multiple times I didn't want to continue because I didn't like playing it during the rougher bullet hell segments. Story and sequences saved Undertale. The game got me to tear up and laugh multiple times and it definitely left me smiling at the end.

Man, I really love this game, was raving about it, and looking forward to writing something up. I'm now entering week 3 stuck at Sans in genocide just a short while after another huge momentum break at Undyne, although that only took me a few days to get through.
Is there a practice mode or something? :)

Man, so I finished Undertale. I actually did find it charmingly quirky and entertaining but god did it do something that really pisses me off in the end. If you are going to make a game that has multiple branching choices that culminate in different endings, all but one of those endings shouldn't be, "Sorry, this is the bad ending. Start over idiot." It's just lazy. If you want multiple endings, make them fulfill the player's choices during the game. It's especially frustrating for me because I think I made like 90% of the right decisions toward the good end, but because I didn't do all of them I'm apparently a failure.

Finally playing Undertale after listening to everyone I know gush about it for years. About an hour in I can definitely say it has a ton of character, a unique battle system and a great soundtrack. I am frustrated by the menus and default controls (using my xbox controller), but those are minor gripes. There is such an obvious Earthbound/Mother influence, especially with the humorous one-liners, regardless of the mood of the situation. I really hope the narrative will have as deep an impact for me as it has for so many others (I have not had any of the story spoiled for me, save for the names of a few bosses from seeing speed runs).

As an avid, lifelong RPG enthusiast, I have a tendency to resent games which achieve significant mainstream popularity, but I am doing my best to see this game completely objectively during my playthrough and develop my own independent opinion. Literally nothing good can come from being pretentious about it, because NieR: Automata was one of the best games I have ever played, only after getting over the fact that I am the only one I know personally who played the first NieR. :'D

Started this over the weekend. Man... It isn't grabbing me yet. I really hope this isn't another one of those games that's victim of getting too much hype before I tried it. I know that it's supposed to just be bizarre and subversive so I'm going to keep going.

Wow, I don't remember the last time I gave up on a boss battle, but the last boss of the genocide route is just too hard. The worst part is I'm not even having fun. At this point I'm just trying to memorize patterns and hoping for the best. I think I'll just watch a playthrough and be done …
