Little Lie

Screenshot from an early narrative scene

LiEat is a game about a girl named Efina who is also a dragon that eats cute monster manifestations of people's lies to help solve crimes.

As bizarre as that summary is, the game itself is a surprisingly traditional light JRPG. Battles are easy and take a backseat to the story, which is divided into three short, self-contained chapters (none of your level progress, items or equipment carry over).

I found the game relaxing to play. Its strange premise and cute art style kept me engaged. But it's definitely rough around the edges. Much of the narrative and world feel constructed solely to justify the character designs (rather than the other way around). Some of the puzzles involve a lot of repetitive checking for interactive objects. A handful of the game's jokes are pretty cringe-y. And I wish the story focused more on Efi and less on her partner/handler. But I found these drawbacks easy to forgive, especially given the game's price point (freeware, or support the creator by paying $3 on Steam).
