The four classes feel VERY different from each other and equally helpful to the team. The upgrades and choices of loadout feel appropriately meaningful. The shooting feels good. The art style is amazing, as is the UX design, the writing, and the voice acting. Just overall presentation-wise this game is top kek. The procedural generation is maybe the best I've seen in a 3D game, every cave looks and feels SO different. And in the 130 something hours I spent with Destiny 2 we didn't have any objectives or activities as complex and interesting as Deep Rock is throwing at us after only a handful of hours. It just does such an amazing job of varying up the gameplay compared to other games like this.
Advanced, hidden mechanics and tactics make me feel like the skill ceiling is high and that I still have a lot to learn. When I watched a video showing me how, as a scout main, I could grapple at a wall and with proper timing and aim power attack it to create a hole for myself to land in, so that I don't NEED an engineer's platform to mine high up minerals, my mind was blown. I proceeded to die several times from fall damage trying to master it.
Oh, and there's really NO microtransactions to speak of. The devs release DLC packs of skins, which I bought all of to support them and because they were only 20 bucks on sale right now. There are a ton more cosmetic items in the game that you couldn't pay them real money for even if you wanted to. You have to actually earn them. How refreshing!
ROCK AND STONE, BROTHERS!

Trying this game out through game pass and its surprisngly polished. I love the drop-in and drop-out co-op as well as the main hub / mission control area before each mission.

My question is though is it worth purchasing this game through the steam sale that's on currently? or stick with it via game pass? I'll eventually lose access to game pass around May and will lose access to the game. Is it the kind of game you'll keep playing for years to come?

For my winter break i was planning on playing red dead 2, yakuza kiwami, metro exodus, FF-XIII, little nightmartes 2, untitled goose game and this. The highlight was supposed to be red dead 2 but this game is definitely taking the crown. I'm playing it with two friends or joining open servers and it's a blast!

As much as it's been a blast playing along with random players and friends, having Hazard level 5 (the highest selectable difficulty) as a standard, I am contemplating about putting the game on the shelf until there are new content updates brought to the table. This game took up the torch as a multiplayer obsession after my time with Team Fortress 2, knowing that I am primarily a single-player type. I will remember the player community as one of the best to hang around with, and for that, I will keep those memories in high regard. Now, time to put more focus on my backlog and IRL responsibilites. Rock and stone!
