Platform:

Turbografx-16

Description:

Simple run-to-the-right-until-you-reach-the-goal type arcade platformer. 16 Bit update of the NES classic.

Liked:

The enemy selection is cute and most of them are unique in behaviour. The environments are much more varied than in the original, with even changing weather at times, and some of the parallax effects really look nice. The difficulty this time round doesn't seem to be as impossible as in the original, and the controls are a bit tighter in this, plus the added run animation really helps to know what you are doing.

Disliked:

If you have played Adventure Island 2 or 3 on NES, this can be disappointing since it's basically a step back. Which means all the content like the Mounts, Bonus level, secret routes and everything.

Summary:

New Adventure Island is doing exactly what it advertises. It doesn't try to be an Adventure Island 4 or 5, it instead tries to update the original graphically and with minor gimmicks. It's a good game, but to me falls a bit flat compared to what Adventure Island 3 is on NES.
