The Ur-Quan Masters, also known as Free Stars: The Ur-Quan Masters, is a free, open source fork of Star Control II. UQM is a game of exploration, diplomacy, role-playing, and top-down combat. You play the commander of a lost research mission sent to re-establish contact with Earth, and discover if they are still at war with the oppressive Ur-Quan.
Explore a hostile and fully realised galaxy, gather resources and information and contact strange and unique alien species. Assemble an alliance to gain freedom from the oppressive Ur-Quan. Choose from a collection of ships and battle enemies 1-on-1 with a 2D top down melee combat system.
Thanks to the open source community, this game includes updates and compatibility fixes to run on modern operating systems. This version (optionally) includes voice acting and music from the 3DO version not found in the original PC version, a network Super Melee mode, plus other changes.
