The story eventhough at first was kinda boring later on got interesting. Even then i wouldn't expect a masterpiece story from a spiderman game. I am happy as long as they give me really smooth swinging and some really good boss fights, Thats where my biggest issue with the game is, the bosses were not that fun except the rhino and scorpio fight. Others were just the cliche bosses u see in other games.
Mary jane missions were a pain in the ass especially since i frickkin hate mary jane. Miles morales so far is an ok-ish character since i feel the miles morales from the spiderman into the spider verse was the perfect one. I also felt like goosebumps moments were very rare (only 1 or two i could think of) and they could've added more such action moments.
Another huge positive for me in this game is spiderman himself. From his character to his suit, all were perfect. The suit that comes in this game has to be one of the best spiderman suites ever (and the comic suit was fun to play with too.)

This is one of those games where my review won't do it justice. First off, I got 100 % of the trophies. This is maybe the fifth game ever that I fully completed. That should tell you what I think about this game.
The game references a ton of stuff from the comics I'm guessing (didn't read any of the comics) but I understood a few references here and there thanks to the original trilogy and just the soundtrack of this game got me feeling very nostalgic, since I didn't really consume much Spider-Man media since the Tobey Maguire movies. The music, the web swinging and the web shooting sounds all were immediately recognizable as well.
The web swinging in general is easily the most satisfying thing I've ever done in any video game ever. It's incredibly smooth and as close to perfect as it can get. Once you unlock a few more abilities, swinging gets even more fun. I found myself swinging without any goal from time to time because it was so fun and that's really the most impressive thing about it, the fact that you even forget what you were going to do.
Just as smooth is the combat system, which is like the Batman Arkham games for anyone who played those. You have a few buttons to hit enemies and get alerted before you get hit so you can dodge. Right from the start, because you're Spider-Man, the combat system allows for so many nice combos. Hit a guy, slide between his legs, come up behind him, kick him in the back, done. Then go to the next guy, uppercut him into the air, grab him with your webs and throw him on top of another enemy, done. Later on, you unlock more abilities and a lot of gear that you can use to beat the crap out of enemies in even more fun ways. Pinning an enemy against the wall with your webs is also immensely satisfying and easily my favorite way to beat them.
Next to the main story, there is a LOT of extra content to explore and because the web swinging and combat are both so fun, I actively wanted to do all the extra content. I didn't want this experience to end, which is why I did EVERYTHING in the game and got 100% completions in all 9 districts. Side content varies from side missions, in which you help civilians or fight "side" villains to random encounters against enemies of one of 4 varieties (Fisk's guards, "demons" etc.).
While you're fighting, Spider-Man is being Spider-Man of course, so he always drops some one-liner to annoy his enemies. Most of these were pretty funny and I audibly laughed at least a couple times. He repeats himself during some of the side content but with the sheer amount of the side content that is in the game, that might be unavoidable. Also, the voice acting (played in German) is superb. Probably the best German voice acting in any game I've played, which can be very poor in even AAA titles sometimes. J. Jonah Jameson's voice actor does an amazing job and so does Spider-Man's. Everyone else ranges from very good to solid, which was a positive surprise.
Two more things I want to mention quickly: 1. There are a few dozen Spider-Man suits in the game. Now get this: All of them can be unlocked JUST BY PLAYING THE GAME. Yes, the game released in 2018, not 2008 and there are no microtransactions for this sort of stuff. They put stuff in the game that they didn't need to and didn't charge you extra for it. I know, it's nuts. And it made me remember how big of a difference such a little feature can make in the grand scheme of things. You can just feel the love that went into creating this game and I really appreciate everyone working on this.
Lastly, the story and the games villains. There are actually more than a few that you encounter throughout the game. Most of their backstories are actually explored during the game, which was great. My favorite thing about any story is a game, movie or book is a good villain. Pagan Min of Far Cry 4 could have been awesome, if he wasn't so absent during almost the entirety of the game. Same goes for Vaas in Far Cry 3. Heath Ledger's Joker is easily my favorite villain ever and Gus Fring in Breaking Bad is also an incredible character. Both get a ton of screen time, not just when they are one on one with the protagonist. They get their chance to shine on their own. And the main villains in this game do as well. Electro, Vulture, Scorpion and Rhino are some of the less frequently presented villains but their boss fights were still all unique enough and enjoyable. Everyone else, like Spider-Man, Mary-Jane, Miles, Aunt May, Martin Li, Otto Octavius, Norman Osborne and Yuri Watanabe were well written and all added something to the story.
Can't wait for the sequel!
(Also, I could've sworn this game was developed by Sucker Punch, this game reminded me of Infamous: Second Son so much).

This quote from Yahtzee Croshaw's review states my feelings for this game perfectly:
if you broke it down to component bits and selectively reconstructed it, you'd have a perfect Spider-Man game. The problem is, the game also contains... every other game that has ever existed in the history of the world - most predominantly, Batman: Arkham City - and the advice I've given to pretty much every Spider-Man game in the last decade has been, "Stop trying to be Batman! Embrace the things that make you special, Spider-Man! You can't skulk in the shadows; you're dressed like the top of a police car, for fuck's sake!"
Mechanically, the game is super fun. Traversal feels fluid and easy, but at the same time is not necessarily mindless: to get optimal speed you need to think about your arc, when to let go and how to combine the various movement abilities. Combat is well executed if a bit repetitive, but it's got enough variety of enemies, moves and gadgets to carry the whole game.
In terms of characters and story, there are nice movements, like Spider-man talking to a man about his pigeons, or swinging around while texting Mary Jane.
But, as the quote says, it also contains everything else.
The game is overstuffed with nonsense collectives and activities. Gameplay is often murdered by QTEs and pointless minigames, and even the story missions have some filler in them. Even worse, the game forces you to do open world activities, either by inserting them in the main quest or by every now and then not starting the story mission if the player doesn't do some activity. Also, upgrades and suit require "tokens" that you gain on those activities.
And for the life of me I cannot understand what possessed these devs to include missions in which you play as normal people in force stealth missions with insta-fail. These are some of the most stupid, unnecessary, parts of the whole game.
It might be my own disconnect with superheroes, but the plot itself felt too meandering and nonsensical. The various villains' motivations don't really make sense and in most cases seem to be grounded in the bad guys being crazy. Be it Mister Negative's "demon" or Doctor Octopus' mood-altering implants, people just act chaotically and even self-sabotaging.
Oh, and yes, the fact that Doc Ock is in this game is a spoiler I guess? The game spends ages trying to set up Otto Octavius' character and throwing unsubtle winks at his eventual turn. It's eye-rollingly dumb and it only makes Spider-man look like a dumb idiot who after 8 years of fighting deranged supercriminals with powers based on failed experiments he cannot notice the warning signs. "Wow, Doc is really passionate about this project", he muses to himself after listening Otto's insane ramblings about liberating himself from the tyranny of the flesh. It also makes absolutely no sense that in a matter of days this gentle and good-natured man turns into a supervillain that's not only respected but also feared by the more established peanut gallery of baddies.
Also, the politics of this game are comically bad, whether it's Spider-man fixing the surveillance tools of the police or the the portray of all convicts as murderous lunatics. It's like the writers were living on a completely different planet with no issues of police abuse and constant encroachment in people's right to privacy and in which everyone is either an irredeemable criminal, a member of the forces of good, or an innocent civilian that needs the latter to save them from the former.
It's nothing sort of a miracle that with all these issues, the game still is a fun experience. If you shut your brain off and mainline story missions, flinging between building and saving the day as Spider-man is satisfying enough to save this monstrosity.

Spider-Man is the first game about our friendly neighborhood spidey made by Insomniac. At first I want to say that i absolutely loved every single spider-man game back when activision had the rights, but Insomniac took things to another level. Another thing is, I'm a Great Spider-Man fan, I followed his comics as soon as I could read them, so it's not exactly easy to not satisfy me, but trust me on this one, this is a game of Great quality. Ah, worth to mention that I played the Remastered version on PS5.
Let's start with the most important thing in the Spider-Man game. This game makes you feel like a real Spider-Man. The feeling of moving around the city with web slinging is just insane and it's made with great detail. You feel like a real spidey, moving super fast, making great tricks in the air, doing everything super precisely. The combat is as good as the movement. It feels super fluid, you have access to super cool web gadgets and it makes you feel exactly like you're a Spider-Man himself. It's similar to Batman Arkham games, but more fluid and designed to fit the Spidey. Insomniac added tons of costumes to change the look of your Spidey, but also alter the combat a little, because they all feature special powers. This feature is just awesome. The story isn't adapted from comics or movies, but it's simply amazing. It's touching and goose bumpy, but most importantly fun and fleshy, filled with tons of great cinematic and action... and when it comes to action on the screen it tops the movies in my opinion. The city is super authentic, NYC feels better than ever and it's flooded with cool activities, and they all make sense. Even typical challenges are here for a reason. The city changes with the story, it's progressively falling into more chaos and I loved it. City interactions change because of that. It reminded me of good old Web of Shadows. Even collectibles are awesome, every single one is a comic reference and it was a blast to collect all of them. To sum this section up, they did everything to make you feel like in the New York City from Spider-Man comics, and they did it Great.
I played on the highest difficulty and it was really well balanced. It required some skill, but with more lvls it started to be easier and easier. In my opinion they could do more with the skill tree but it was okay and gadgets kinda helped. I faced some bugs, but nothing really game braking, nothing will really make me bother after Cyberpunk anyway. The graphics was insane, I played with capped 30fps on maxed settings and it looked better than real life. Ray-tracing is as good as people describe it. There is also 60fps mode with RT and dynamic 4k, works even better and looks just as good. I never noticed any frame drops, the game played like bread and butter. The game never bored me and it was a blast to finish everything, it's also a super easy plat.
To sum things up, this is a must play for every Spider-Man fan, and every player that likes these kind of games. As a number one Spidey fan, this game is a thing of beauty and I've been waiting years for something like this.
10/10

I just spent hours basically exploring the entire map swinging around and collecting all 50+ backpacks before even starting with the story. It's so much fun to just get from A to B, I probably wouldn't even care if missions got repetitive that way. And I never, ever collect stuff in videogames. This is what open world game developers dream to achieve, make collecting stuff actually fun and worth it. New York feels alive, Spider-Man does too, and it all looks so freaking gorgeous. I can barely believe this is a PS4 game I'm playing on the PS5. It even feels like 60fps for some reason. Miles Morales will probably be an even bigger blast if I'm already so excited about this last-gen prequel.
The combat is also really darn fun. So many ways to fight, somewhat interactive environments and a lot of skills to unlock to make it even more fun. The only barrier to fun here have been those fat guys that cause a lot of damage if they hit you and seem to always come in twos, but I guess this would barely be a game if there weren't at least a bit of a challenge.
Five stars for now. I am about 99% certain nothing will change that, because I've been playing Insomniac Games my whole life and am aware they know how to make games fun, exactly what they should be.
EDIT: I decided to change it to four stars because of too many very simple and therefore somewhat dragging "stealth" missions, both as Spider-Man as well as MJ and Miles Morales. Also when I originally wrote my 5-star review, there was an illusion of diverse side tasks, but that slowly faded away as I realized not only the main story but also the stuff you do for collectables gets sort of repetitive. Not only that, but most suits have plainly uninteresting powers; I actually kept using one of the first available throughout the whole game, and can only imagine a lot of players did. And so the side tasks become unnecessary anyway, and I rushed through the main story eventually. The side quests though where quite fun and refreshing.

I don’t know if you can tell by my profile pic, but yeah, I love Marvel.
So, since Miles Morales came out nearly a month ago, I decided to revisit its predecessor Spider-Man PS4, and no, not on the PS5. Now, revisiting it, I remembered it being one of the quintessential games of the decade, but right now, I’m not really feeling it. It’s still amazing and probably the best Spider-Man game to date (it really hurts Neversoft), but I have some glaring issues that I kinda missed because I was just so enthralled by the entire experience.
But I mean, you know what I’m gonna tackle first and what all the critics seem to agree on:
Blockquote This game makes you FEEL like Spider-Man
Jesus Christ, and I thought the Miles Morales reviews were quotable in a bad way.
But, really, all the mechanics regarding Spider-Man are perfected to its peak in this game, the web-slinging is so satisfying and the tricks you can do later really just give off the feel that Peter enjoys this, and jumping off buildings like Avengers Tower are so amazing, the animations are smooth less, and the only real problem I have is a better transition after you bump into a wall web-slinging. It’s just so nice to swing around the entire map, and it’s the true best part of this game. Some of these moments are the best moments in the entire superhero game genre. I love the Arkham games, and yes, though these mechanics would not work in the context of Batman, something like this would feel so free. I know he has stuff like this and the whole point is the kind of trapped feel of Gotham, I just kind of wish there was a mechanic like this.
Speaking of the Arkham games, I really want to talk about the combat. This is the best it’s been in a while. It uses the possibility of Peter’s powers as a building step from the Arkham games and it’s so smooth and fun to beat the shit out of these guys and probably put them in extreme debt in life. You can do some of the smoothest combo-chains that are flashy, but it doesn’t ruin the moveset unlike stuff like Kingdom Hearts (heheeh, still love the first game though).
People complain that you can’t kill the bad guys, but like really?! It’s Spider-Man, do you expect him to pull out the guy’s heart and force him to eat it, then shove his hand down his throat and grab it back? That’s never what he does, or would do.
The thing is, there are sequences that are the complete opposite, more specifically, the stealth missions with MJ. Each time Peter has a normal fucking conversation with MJ, she says something about finding information, and then it says: _ minutes/hours earlier. It might not come yet, but Jesus it’s inevitable. Sometimes the levels can be interesting, but most of the times, there is one gimmick that you rely on, and it slogs on and becomes extremely boring. Playing these segments, made me wish I could just take names and kick ass with Spider-Man because this becomes so boring after the second one. I think the last mission is really cool, but even then, that’s only because of an aesthetic choice.
Sequences like this only work with stuff like Miles’s sequence, where you’re actively trying to find out what’s happening and the result is extremely emotional, other than that, this is the worst part of this game, it’s not the worst stealth, but it’s unenjoyable, which to me is worse than bad stealth, but with good ideas.
The graphics are legitimately amazing, and this is coming from someone playing from a normal PS4 that’s not Pro. The motion capture is genuinely realistic, though the Peter face needs some getting used to (hmm, this reminds me of something in this year). What astonishes me that I didn’t even realize, was that there are actual mini dioramas when you look in each window. I barely know a single thing about graphics, but the lighting looks dynamic and pleasing. All of them look accurate and turn out looking amazing.
Now, the story. This is amazing from somebody who’s read the comics and watched the movies. All the beats make sense from the context of Spider-Man, I love how they totally get the dynamic between Peter and Spider-Man correctly, and they get the balance between their identities. Jonah is a dick, but entertaining to listen to, and I love Peter’s quips and interactions with everyone around him, whether friend or foe. The ending ties things up so well, where there’s actually no regard for a sequel. That ending where Peter confronts Otto creates one of the most bonechilling and heartbreaking experiences in Spider-Man media. I do think there is a slight dramatic shift after the Demons get taken down, and Martin Li isn’t really that subtle at all, but other than that, the characters, the moments, and the interactions tie this game up in a neat bow.
1 slight issue that I just thought about and seen in a bunch of other reviews, I admit that the boss battles are very weirdly spaced apart, and there is a moment, where there are like 8 battles in the span of 2 hours (that’s an exaggeration of course). Other than that, without getting too specific, I don’t really have much to say about this game. I think I flew over the stealth problems in my head initially, but I think that factors in it being a completely new Spider-Man game made by a game studio that I absolutely love. Still great though.
8.4/10. Would recommend to all a Spider-Man fans and definitely a must-play PS exclusive to anyone who owns a PS4.

Great graphics, great story, and an all-around fun game to play. I had the ending spoiled a couple weeks before beating the game by some dirtbag on Reddit. However, these plot points ended up being telegraphed pretty hard a few hours before you finish the game anyhow, so it was not too much of a big deal.
Aside from the time-suck of mopping up crimes, some of the Taskmaster Challenges are probably the toughest obstacle to the Platinum Trophy. Luckily, you don't need to get Gold on every challenge to buy all the suits you need; because some of the Golds are damn-near impossible to obtain. But, you do need to get a fair share of Silvers to get enough Challenge Tokens.
Swinging around is just so fun. Aside from the one time they have you do it when it becomes an option, I didn't even fast travel until after I'd seen the credits and I was finishing all the crimes around the city.

"The Heist" DLC finished.
I'm a little dissapointed. Black Cat is a fun character and the Screwball challenges are also fun, but the plot is just too thin and obvious, the missions are largely the same and it's too damn short. I 100% it without effort.
I hope the other DLC are better.

I see so many elements of the Infamous series in this game!

There's a vast world of difference between "sandbox games" and the type of open-world games that Insomniac makes. For a series like say, Fallout or Grand Theft Auto, the excitement comes from the opportunities the game offers you. Kill every cop you see, or set of a nuclear bomb, or whatever. What makes Spider-Man so much different than other open-world, explore and do anything games is that simply the act of traversing that world is just as fun as the opportunities and story that is being told. Insomniac has gotten in the business of making games that are simply fun to just walk around in.
All the way back to Spyro and the Ratchet & Clank series, up until Sunset Overdrive, Insomniac has been great at making games that are fun to just hang out in. Grinding around the city in Sunset Overdrive, or bashing enemies in Ratchet & Clank is just as great as the story - if not even better. Almost every time I have finished the story of an Insomniac game, I have wanted to continue the game, exploring the world and just maneuvering around the worlds that are insanely fun just to move around in.
Spider-Man might be the pinnacle of Insomniac's ability to craft massive worlds that are fun to move around in. In many ways, Spider-Man owes much of its design to Sunset Overdrive, a vastly underrated game from Insomniac that does many of the things that Spider-Man does so well. One of my favorite things that Insomniac does with these large scale games is pretty early on present all the things you can do in the world - and importantly, WHERE you can do these things - and allows you to discover the world through these side missions. So many games will say "oh, go find 100 of these items, good luck!" but thankfully, Insomniac always lets you know where these items are. This makes the game simply fun, instead of borderline stressful, and especially with photo op missions and the like, will allow you to see all the different fantastic elements they've recreated in their version of New York City.
Spider-Man also borrows heavily from the other standout superhero series: Rocksteady's Arkham series of Batman games. Not only are the various mission structures very similar, but the combat especially is straight from the world of Batman. Yet Insomniac improves upon this, making both the missions and the combat not quite as brutal as the Batman universe. Wisely, Insomniac has given this Spider-Man world a light touch that makes this game charming over challenging. But if the player wants the challenge, they've hidden plenty to seek out for hours of difficult missions.
But the key to what Insomniac does so right with this game isn't just in creating a game that is incredibly fun to explore and move around in. The key here is in the term "friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man." Peter Parker and Spider-Man are sources of purity and good in a city packed with maniacal villains and criminals on every corner. Parker here is a wonderful companion, doing everything he can to improve the life of those around him. He's always assisting Aunt May, giving Miles Morales a purpose and assisting MJ when she needs help. Yet the overall arc of Spider-Man presents the idea that even though Parker's ambition to be the savior for those around him, he needs to embrace the help that his friends can give him. This is such a well told Spider-Man story, and considering I've often found the story the weakest part of many Insomniac games, I think they really nailed the right tone that this game needs.
Insomniac's strength as a video game company has quickly become creating games that are equally enjoyable no matter what you're doing in them. Spider-Man literally throws you right into swinging down the streets, and almost 30 hours of gameplay later, doing that still has the same amount of pure joy as it did in the beginning. But every aspect here is fantastic, from fighting the newly formed Sinister Six, sneaking around an art gallery as MJ, or simply walking down the street and greeting your fans or taking photos of the Wakanda embassy. Insomniac excels at making a sandbox where every grain is worthwhile.

Remember when I told you I wouldn't be able to get the Platinum trophy in this game?
I lied.
