Absolutely loved it and did it see it coming. And actually shed a tear at the end which was surprising as well.
I’ve got this game I don't know where - probably as part of some bundle and decided to give it a go due to quite interesting visual style which my son absolutely loved to watch. Had know idea what the game is about or how it plays before starting.
Visually it's a lot like bastion which means a very pretty hand drawn style with floating islands of sort. And while I don't usually pay much attention to the soundtrack some of the songs here really caught me by surprise and man - they were perfectly fitting. Added a lot.
Mechanically this is mostly puzzle solving game set inside a persons mind. Divided into left and right brain sides for more artistic side and the more logical one. The levels look really good and the puzzles are well designed. Kept me entertained but never got me stuck. Just right.
The story is probably the best thing of the game and without spoiling much it's basically an inner fight with a trauma after car accident though you're not sure what …

Overall I really enjoyed the game and was really positively surprised by it in more than one way. Will probably stick with me for a while. So far best game I played this year.
An imaginative setting, some cool concepts and and mostly simple puzzles make for an interesting experience. It's not very polished, with a few rough places where hints are missing, a couple of technical glitches and a lack of smoothness in the control of the protagonist (mainly in combat) mean this isn't brilliant, only quite nice.
I really appreciated the artistry of the game, and how the developers portrayed the sides and layers of the mind. It was lovely to look at, and the interactions and dialogue are wonderfully cheeky. Each nightmare faced even has its own theme song!
The gameplay was really nice - lots of puzzles that are solvable in a reasonable amount of time, some combat here and there to change things up, and even the "side quest" of collecting crucial memories for my fellow completists out there.
The story of the game is very simple, definitely not the primary selling point, though it is touching and a little inspiring in the sense it makes you pause and think about what is important in life.
The game is a decent length as well - you'll get some hours out of it.
Overall this was a lot of fun. If you see it on sale and are on the fence, I would definitely recommend it.
Short and easy game that may be worth a playthrough if you are the kind of person who values positive messages and optimistic endings in games. Sadly, I found the game to have a good deal of problems.
First of all, the art style is colorful and eye-catching, but I'm not a fan of any of the individual designs. The main character looks like an abomination to me and the whole game has this kind of "discount Amanita Design" look that never fully clicked for me. The music is mostly fine, but no tunes ever stood out. And the voice acting ranges from decent to pretty grating. Worst part is the writing itself, with constant banter and jokes that quickly become annoying. Some people could say the game is focused at kids and we should give it more slack, but given its central topic, I don't think that's the case.
Gameplay is a mix of puzzle solving (where you have to pick up and use objects, move crates, activate levers and such) and combat. Puzzles are mostly functional and repetitive, though there are a few clever ones later which are sadly coupled with others that are very annoying. Combat …

Puzzles are mostly functional and repetitive, though there are a few clever ones later which are sadly coupled with others that are very annoying. Combat is very basic and forgettable, you have a normal attack, a charged attack with area damage and a roll, with only four enemy types (one of them sporting a few variations). Bosses spice things up a bit by mixing combat and puzzle solving, but are nothing to write home about either. Two of them also have the most annoying voice acting in the game, which makes fighting them less enjoyable than it should.
All in all, it's not really a bad game but a mediocre one. If you got it free on Steam via the recent give away, or you find it at a good discount, it could be worth a playthrough, but I'm 100% sure that I'll never replay it and that I'm skipping its sequel as well.
Was given away on Steam around the sequel's release. A fairly imaginative action adventure game with puzzle elements, that whips up a mental world with characters and brain mechanics you interact with. It's a whimsical world you make your way through, to sort out the chaos inside the mind following a traumatic event for the person in question. The fun thing is that each boss you encounter have their own style of catchy, musical tunes while you fight them or their minions off. With that said, it's okay for the experience it provides and not as mind-blowing (pun intended) as I would have hoped for. Still serves well as a pastime adventure to get your brainwaves going lightly.
When I first looked at this game I was really intrigued by the art style, whimsical yet giving off dark vibes. Then I had someone tell me that it was a really good play. I finally started it, and it turned out to be more interesting that I thought it would.
This game has a unique flare with it being more of a musical puzzle game, which was fun and new to me. The music is great, with lots of comedy and wit written in. The puzzles are challenging and there is a tiny bit of combat, but it's very relaxed combat. This game very much has a focus on the story and the puzzle solving. It gives adult "Inside Out" vibes for the story, but with it's own rendition.
I'm not sure that I would spend a ton of money for this game, I would put it on a wishlist and wait for it to go on sale or hope that is a free giveaway at some point (that's how I got it). It only took me 6 and a half hours to play through the whole game and I got about half of the extra achievements. Overall I …

It’s a game set in someone’s imagination – I feel like that’s a genre now. I was drawn in because the animation made me think of some of the odd, dream-like cards for the board game, Dixit. It’s still as whimsical and charming as of today.
I’ll be honest, I played for fifteen minutes. I bounced off the gameplay, art style, and dialogue hard. I tried to mute the dialogue but I still found any spoken commands completely grating. Then, even though I muted the dialogue I had to suffer through the insane rock song near the beginning — I just hated it too much to keep going. If they had let me put the audio in another language that might have added enough novelty to continue. I’m sure there’s good stuff here but I personally could not get over the presentation and the boring and obvious gameplay.
I wanted to like this game so much!
It is a good game, guys. I am the one who's wrong. The game is not made for me, although it kind of is.
The story is pretty straight forward: Nightmares have invaded the mind and the old hero has to get rid of them and restore everything. You have a companion comparable to Navi in The Legend of Zelda, that sometimes gives you hints, but not as many as I would have liked.
The style of the game is very artistic, with drawn backgrounds and other styles which I don't know how to name. The point is that the game looks pretty and cool. I must emphasize how good the sound and music is for this game. The game is not a musical, but it is close to it. Every time you fight a boss, they have their own song. But it doesn't sound cheesy, it is actually very well done. Also, the world is built of musical instruments and some puzzles are based on music. As a professional musician, I appreciate the effort and detail towards this aspect of the game. This is why I should have loved this game. …

But... this game is a puzzle game, with some combat included. Very minimal combat, and lots of puzzles. I hate puzzles. You have no idea how much I hate them. In spite of that, I kept playing the game, because I found them doable, and would not melt my brain, until I got to the last level of the game. I hated it so much, you have no idea. I got worse rage than when I played Elden Ring. But it is my fault. I am not supposed to be playing these types of games, because I don't enjoy them. They make me feel stupid.
But the premise, art and music made it so appealing! Struggles of a simple life. Everyone, if you like puzzles, please give this game a try. If you like musical and artsy games, please check it out! I think it's on sale for pennies on the Switch. Probably in other consoles too.
Gorgeous, visionary little game with some interesting mechanics that could've been exploited a bit better (i.e. synching battles to music, push more the rhythm game aspect) But overall an enjoyable experience, that only gets a bit tedious by the very end.
Free @ Epic this week (repeat):

Previously given away on Steam, GOG and Epic.
The combat wasn't all that fun, the puzzles were pretty tedious, and I really struggled to make progress. I'll blame myself and just say it was hard for me to even figure out what the game wanted me to do sometimes rather than it being a problem with how the game conveyed the objectives. The art looked nice at least.
This is free on GOG for another 71 hours:

Figment
Finished 2022-07-06
Figment is a cozy puzzle game made by indie developer Bedtime Digital Games in 2017. I bought it at a -90% discount on the Steam sale. Regular price is 19,99€.
It took me 5.3 hours to beat.
Premise
The game starts with a car crash scene. Moments later you are playing as a fictional character that looks like Tingle from the Zelda series. The game world is called the mind, the game explains why it's called that in the end.
Gameplay
The gameplay consists of puzzles and melee combat. The enemies are not too difficult. And the combat mechanics are really simple, you only have a slash combo and charged slash. The game features bosses called nightmares.
What I liked
What I liked the most about the game was the music and puzzles. The puzzles were not too hard but felt rewarding when you solved them. The music in this game was interesting. The nightmares were singing as you fought them. The songs were catchy and some lyrics were quite funny. The game's visuals and combat reminded me a little about Bastion. The visuals also have a handmade painted style, similar to games like Broken Age. I …

I had no major tech issues and the game ran well, except for a small segment around the end which dropped the fps for a few seconds
What I didn’t like
I had no major issues with the game. The game is a bit slow at times, and just moving around is a bit slow, I was constantly rolling around because it was faster. The voice recordings were inconsistent, quality of recording and volumes varied a lot depending on characters. There were a couple of puzzles that were not as fun, and can get frustrating. There is no hint system in the game that I saw, but that might have helped with frustration. But it feels really rewarding when you beat the puzzle finally.
Score 3.5/5
