This game made me into the Smash player I am today, as a proud Little Mac main of almost five years. Cloud Strife being added to this game was a milestone in my life. Until Ultimate dropped, Smash 4 was the absolute definitive Smash experience, and still worth a good shot. If your first Smash was Ultimate, bear in mind the mechanics work quite differently and thus many characters are far better in 4 (Bayonetta) or worse overall (Little Mac, sadly).
I like items.
Items are like weather hazards. It is football in the snow. You need to roll with those punches. Saying to shut them off is fine, but demanding it is like saying "I refuse to play until the temperature in this room is exactly at 71 degrees!" Demanding no items is the grammar nazi move for Smash. Saying that "using Smash Balls is cheating" is the same as saying using gloves in baseball is cheating.
Where is the 10-star option on this site?
Just know I clicked 5 stars very firmly.
The game offers a lot of modes to play in single player and the multiplayer is fine, still can't surpass Brawl and Melee but a good Smash
Once more, the title says it all. When it came out? It was the best Smash yet. Now, though? It's more or less been surpassed by Ultimate in every way, shape and form. Save for trophies... and events. I miss those.
After the powerhouse of a game called Super Smash Bros. Melee came out, many wanted a sequel. And in 2008 we got the opposite of that. Super Smash Bros. Brawl struggles with the smooth combat Melee had and while a great singleplayer experience, was definitely disappointing to many. In 2014 though, Nintendo makes this game and it didn’t disappoint. I love it so much for its combat, special ideas, and roster.
first smash game i actually tried to get decent at. played it a lot on the 3DS with my friends at school. score would be higher if custom moves were actually not the worst things ever and if bayonetta and cloud weren't... like that. fun game though
This game is mid as shit. Feels slow and floaty. Custom moves were goofy. New characters were cool though. Bayo and Cloud were dogshit but what can you do.
Play Ultimate.
Honestly, as much as I loved the first two Smash games, I started to feel a bit overwhelmed with just how much there was to do in Brawl. When Smash for 3DS and Wii U came out, I was staggered by the variety and found it hard to keep up. Plus, I guess I didn't really have anyone to play with since I moved away from my brother and no longer hung out in the clubroom at uni.
While Smash 4 is probably a well-balanced game, I just never really ployed it enough to obtain that same level of mastery I reached in the previous instalments. I'm not sure how I'll deal with Smash 5 when it hits the stores!
Still the best brawling game of all. Every character is unique, yet they all feel well balanced. Such a good game, and arguably the best Wii game of all time.
I like this game. I mean, its Smash Bros. What's not to like? The playable characters were a big discussion all throughout the year of its release. I was very excited when they announced Megaman. His final smash made me almost want to cry.
I am not going to try and discuss balance issues, as I have no competitive prowess and can not really determine which characters may or may not be game breaking or most effective in a tournament.
I think I saw a Legend of Kage trophy, which makes me smile.
Its a very fun game and anyone who has played any of the earlier smash games such as Smash Bros, Melee or Brawl will probably have to end up buying this at one point. The roster is too big.
When I went to the midnight release of this game, I kept joking that I wanted to get PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale.
More importantly, I saw a dude who was very socially awkward and just hung out with him until midnight. He told me he hoped he would one day have a girlfriend he could play this game with. I hope he got his wish.
The first smash game I started playing competitively. I was a mario/marth main and I would always get destroyed at tournaments. As a fighting game the combat is good although pretty sluggish. The online was also pretty toxic. There were not any mini games worth playing. The trophies were cool and the amount of characters + the DLC was so dope.
Played the heck out of this one on the Wii U. Smash is always a good time.
Been playing a lot of Smash on 3DS to sate the appetite for Ultimate which has been sitting under the Christmas. Surprisingly, the online isn't as bad as I remember it being back in 2014.
Getting prepared for Ultimate I'm going to play through every stage in order with every character. Should be a nice final hurrah. I might even find my new main. You never know...
I got really hyped after the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate unveiling and decided to bust out Smash for my 3DS only to discover I hadn't unlocked all the fighters on it yet (for shame, I know). So now that I added Bowser Jr. and Duck Hunt Dog, all the fighters are available, as they should be.
Still can't believe we got this game on this tiny handheld.
Don't play this too much anymore, only when my cousin comes around. I wish it wasn't so laggy online because then I'd actually play online. Such a shame.
the things this game has done for me spiritually, emotionally, and the amount of friends made and friends made salty, make smash the best multiplayer game of all time for me. would love to smash with any fellow grouvee players!
First play through information is for the 3DS version. Second play through info is for the Wii U version. The criteria I used to determine the "finish" date is the day I finished unlocking all the characters.
Constantly playing locally and online, need to get unlockables.
