I was so excited for this because I love SW 2. Tried it on Xbox game pass and its nothing like SW2 lol.

It is certainly playable. That said, every execution is exactly the same. Responsiveness of abilities is poor. One wonders why to stack so many systems into one game when the most basic ones are not perfected. Honestly, gun mechanics and traversal is passable but would benefit from some tailoring. It is certainly playable. That said, every execution is exactly the same. Responsiveness of abilities is poor. One wonders why to stack so many systems into one game when the most basic ones are not perfected. Honestly, gun mechanics and traversal is passable but would benefit from some tailoring. When you get something which is a spin on DOOM's shotgun hook you start to see how DOOM get is right and how Shadow Warrior gets it wrong. I know that humor is in the eye of the beholder but hearing Wang's quips every 15 seconds get old very quickly. The quality of dialog is in line with 1997's debut game (simply, not suitable for 2020s). It's on game pass right now and even for free I found it too dull to finish. Better to replay any recent DOOM game than download this one.

Somehow I lost the review I wrote. Anyway it boiled down to:

  • largely a Doom clone (2016/Eternal), but not a great one
  • Tries to be funny, is decidedly humourless
  • Enemies seem dumb as a bag of rocks
  • Could seriously use an FOV slider
  • I guess it’s nice they finally cast an Asian actor as Lo Wang, although I don’t really …
