Wild Gunman might be nothing more than a quick little arcade game to show off the NES Zapper, but it's got a bit of charm and excitement from the quick pace of drawing to shoot.
The game consists of three modes. The first two are waiting for either one or two shady outlaws to yell "FIRE!" to which the player must then shoot the outlaw using the Zapper in time. It's easy enough to aim ahead of time but the reaction time will get the heart pumping. Two outlaws makes it much more difficult because of different shooting times and aiming at both nearly simultaneously, but it's a fun challenge if the player gets bored of the original mode. The last mode is a shooting gallery where the player must shoot an outlaw out of each saloon door and window before they get shot.
Apart from the main mode, the game's outlaws are cute in their imposing looks but silly animations as they get shot down, along with some charming saloon and desert backgrounds. It's pretty straightforward but for a port of an arcade game this gets the job done. Might not be worth a full price but it's worth the heart racing and the sweaty palms.
