It consist of two large countries: Ferelden (from Dragon Age: Origins) and Orlais, as well as the land inbetween. True to the spirit of the series the character can be customized for appearance, sex, class and race. The available races are dwarf, elf, human, and Qunari and the classes are mage, rogue, and warrior with three specializations each. To grow the Inquisition experience needs to be earned by completing quests, which allows the player to further define allegiances and pursue romances. A custom party can be defined and each member benefits from experience as it opens up access to better weapons and more abilities. Power points open up new areas and Inquisition points define the influence over the region; each new level provides a perk that benefits the entire Inquisition. Read less

I'm about 15 hours in and I'm enjoying myself. The story feels a little on the basic side, but the combat is entertaining. I also enjoy the combat room exploration aspect of it a little more than I should, I think it's interesting being able to use your advisors in different ways (although I'm probably not utilizing them as best as I should).

My biggest frustration with this game so far is that it seemingly punishes you for exploring. Basically every area so far has had just a random rift in the middle of a low level area that's like 5-7 levels higher than me and absolutely decimates me. I'm not hugely into open world games so this may be taking some inspiration from that, but I hate it.

It took me ~10 hours to actually start getting new party members so I'm exploring that a bit more and trying to find others, but so far the characters aren't really connecting with me like they did in Mass Effect games, but I don't necessarily think I felt super connected to the characters in Mass Effect 1 at this point either so hopefully this changes.

Aaaaaand that's a wrap, people. After 85 hours, I can say that I've finished Inquisition. Trespasser was an interesting change of pase; much more concerned with pushing the narrative forward instead of erasing dots from a map. I would like the game better if it was a bit more like this all the way through.

I'd be curious to know why @bmo insisted on my playing this DLC before rendering judgement, though.

For all I complain about the bloat, the truth is that I'm at the point in which I can see the end of the tunnel, so to speak, and I'm putting it off as much as I can.

It's incredible how easy it is for a game to win me over by just adding some elements of Norse culture. I'm meeting the Aavar and I'm grinning at all the references. Not only they have nicknames and slakdic poetry, but they even use kennings!

50+ hours in and icons keep popping up on the map and on the war table. To many dumb fetchquests and inconsequential tasks here.

Last night I got to Skyhold and was "crowned" as The Inquisitor. Quick thoughts:

  • I now have a huge castle to decorate and customise? That was unexpected from a Dragon Age game, but still welcomed.

  • The whole dynamic between my main character and the rest of the gang was interesting. The main character obviously had influence in decision-making (mostly to serve the game mechanics) but they were not the leader. I enjoyed the idea of finally an epic RPG in which the main character was not at the real centre of the action (it was one of the things I enjoyed about DA2). So now, being main inquisitor is kind of a bummer.

  • What?! Hawke is in my group? I regret not importing my previous save. The default Hawke is plain as shit.

  • On the topic of Hawke. It's kind of disappointing how boring is the main character of inquisition compared to my sarcastic Hawke. Even her supposedly witty retorts land flat and her voice doesn't have any joy .

Is it me or they nerfed mages big time? I'm like level 10 or something and I feel incredibly underpowered.

Wow, this feels so different from the usual Dragon Age experience. Controls are different (kept jumping instead of pausing the game), ability trees are much simpler, and stats are automatically assigned. Areas are huge and almost open-world-ish. Just an hour in, but I can see that there's a big emphasis on base-building.

Feels very weird, but not bad. Let's see …

Feels very weird, but not bad. Let's see where this goes.

(The character creator is very strange in that you change your features by moving inside a 2D plane instead of a 1D slider. Also, you can change your Adam's apple? weird little detail).

Love the familiar aesthetic and setting of the DA world, we'll just see how the game holds up. Played origins as a human Mage, DA2 as a Human Rogue, so I'm going Human Warrior for Inquisition. and yes I did take about 2 hours of my day to fill out all the Past game history stuff for world placement and such. One of the things I loved about this series, is that they try to keep consistency with all that you've done in the past.

I know everyone loves Dragon Age, and I know everyone loves THIS Dragon Age, but I've had a hard time getting into it. This is my first foray into the series and all the commanding people to do stuff is...not my favorite.

Worst. Combat. Ever. If you pick archer or mage, you literally hold down one button and walk around for 50 hours closing portals and navigating dialogue wheels. You can literally control your entire squad (which ruins any sense of immersion or investment into your character.) And its still boring AF The quests are all the f*king same, the difficulty doesnt change enemy patterns, it just turns everyone into a sponge. The graphics look mediocre at best many other games in 2014 looked better and had a much smaller budget. If thats your idea of fun then i dont know what to say to you... If you've played deus ex, oblivion, skyrim or hell even mass effect please dont expect an experience even a tenth as good as that, out of this game. For those of you lying about how "great" this game i feel sorry for you cause to me this game was a chore. If you somehow don't lose patience after the first 30 minutes...thats literally how shallow the whole game is... Come right the f**k on! Even hearthstone is more fun to play cause there is actually something to look forward to... This game is a cautionary tale of laziness. Zero effort from bioware they should feel ashamed. The story is passable imo but if you're expected to pay even as little as 20 dollars to play a game for just its story, then just play a tell tale "game" instead. By 2014 you should expect a good game to have good gameplay... You'll find more appeal in Two Worlds.

The Dragon Age franchise has always been dear to me and when this year, I finally got a laptop powerful enough to play Inquisition, I was so excited. And it all paid off. We can always say that the game has problems, write several paragraphs saying how it has too many fetch quests but when it comes to enjoyment, I had the best time. Building my character from scratch, seeing her rise to one of the most powerful people in Thedas and form relationships with the companions was amazing and I am impatient to continue doing this in the next installment even if I have to fetch some farmers possessions in the Exalted Plains.

It's scary how addictive I am finding this game - 45 hours played in just two weeks and I still want to play it all the time. I knew almost nothing about it going in and I'm avoiding all spoilers.

What is particularly bad is that I'm already thinking about what I will do differently on my next playthrough...
