A world both repulsive and inviting
I stumbled upon With Those We Love Alive looking for a good game to introduce a friend to Twine, but ended up playing through the game. The pacing was incredible, unlike other interactive fiction games I've experienced. The story at times made my stomach hurt, but writing was so unreal I couldn't stop myself from taking another step in the story. The soundtrack was unexpected, but helped draw me in as the story unfolded.
Part of me wants to see this world, but the other part is glad it's limited to prose.
A bit of a slog, and I would love some visuals, but I understand that that isn’t what the game is. I liked the descriptions of everything, but I didn’t enjoy how the only thing to do to progress is sleeping, though maybe that was the point. I had to play it for a class so I think that tainted my experience
