BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle is certainly engaging for short bursts of time, but is mostly mind numbingly repetitive story elements and simplified fighting gameplay. The gameplay is pretty fun for the most part, but it doesn’t take long to discover the right combos to win every single fight. Worth a couple hours of your time, but don’t expect anything close to a deep experience
Easily my least favorite game in the series, I honestly didn't really like the new combat mode and to be honest I found the story mode boring because I'm not familiar with the guest characters, so I don't understand the references, although I must admit that I liked the design of some of them.
BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is an incredibly entertaining fighter that hinges on some brilliantly crafted team mechanics, so it's a real shame that the overall product is cloaked in controversy. Accessible yet open-ended and deep, Arc System Works' latest is slick and expressive, but it's the questionable DLC practices that ultimately muddy the waters.
I enjoy how accessible this game is to newcomers but boy there are basically NO extras. The sprites really vary in quality too with the rwby cast looking like some of the best Sprite art I've seen in years and the in birth Sprite art looking about ps1 era.
The story is a wate of time so don't bother. It's really only fun if you have friends about your level of skill. Playing this alone is a waste of time.
Wow I really love Arc System Works' tutorials. Even tho they make some of the most ridiculously complex and hard core fighting games they really do want new players to feel as comfortable as possible picking them up. I thought this game was a way more casual experience but after the tutorials I realized I had only really scratched the surface of all it's mechanics.
I've been playing this one off and on for the past year or two. And it's great stuff, a crossover tag-team fighter featuring characters from Blazblue, Under Night In-Birth, Persona 4 Arena, and RWBY (and some other IPs if you pick up all the DLC packs). Like all the Blazblue games, the character animation is amazing and the controls are fantastic. But also, there are a ton of combos to learn and no matter how many hours I put into it there's no way I'll never not be insta-killed in any online match against literally anyone on the planet.
Still though, great fun! And technically the combos are on the simpler side of things, so if you do want another fighting game to mess around in with friends, this is one of the best options available currently. (And, you know, you all are cool with anime nonsense, because ALL the Chunibyo dials are cranked to 11 here.)
Always wanted to "get into" fighting games, figured this is a fair place to start. Apparently the training mode is great for newbies.
Decided to finally bite the bullet and buy Blazblue Cross Tag Battle while the deluxe edition was on sale (PS4). I remembered playing the demo back when it first came out, and enjoying it. And Blazblue has become my favorite for ongoing 2D fighters, it seems. I love how ridiculous all the characters are.
This entry is particularly good for me. Throwing in characters from other solid 2D fighters is great, and since they're all over-the-top anime style they all fit in together perfectly. (I also loved Persona 4 [and 3].) The tag team system is a lot of fun, and I appreciate that it's easier to pull off combos in this one compared to most other games in this genre. I recognize I'll always be hopeless against the veterans online, but I can still have a good time.
A great way to get into anime fighters. Played for about 10 hours with a friend's account and it was quite fun.
Hopefully it goes on sale soon.
