Sure, it is an ode to the old days, but it actually is fairly deep and does some things with the genre, with its lite RPG elements and whatnot. It's a lot of fun to play with a friend, and my only real gripe is that some boss battles are just a pain in the ass rather than fun. …

Sure, it is an ode to the old days, but it actually is fairly deep and does some things with the genre, with its lite RPG elements and whatnot. It's a lot of fun to play with a friend, and my only real gripe is that some boss battles are just a pain in the ass rather than fun. Shoot a boss a couple times then it runs to a different part of the map that you've already explored a million times anyway? Not fun. But besides that, the game is pretty great.
