He is coming, stalking criminals in the spirit world and the real world. A possessed man is coming, a voodoo mask in his chest and lines of power in his back. Shadow Man is coming, trailing evil from Liveside to Deadside. To stop an apocalypse. To save your soul.

The Horror. The Horror. I embrace it.
This review is for the Nintendo 64 version

Wow.

The cover to Shadow Man was engraved into my child's memory. My mom forbid me to buy it, so I never knew what it is actually about and it became a mythos for me. I mean she was totally right: this is as The Devils Rejects, The House of 1.000 Corpses, etc. US-American 90/00s horror as it gets.

I did not know that the game is so vast and has such a big community! It is such a legend of vidya

My favorite Liveside levels and bosses:

  • Mojave Desert and Marco Cruz (I always found amateur DJs crazy terrifying and making them a goofy serial killer was necessary)
  • Florida and Milton Pyke (this actually gave me the chills - a Vietnam veteran running amok in a child's camp is some heavy shit ... the level does some crazy visual story telling with the police cars and Pyke's makeshift barriers)
  • New York and Avery Marx (it's just a thoroughly beautiful level with the butterflies and nightingales)
  • Texas and Dr. Victor Batrachian "The Lizard King" (it's just such a cool Natural Born Killers reference, isn't it?!)
  • London and Jack the Ripper (also crazy beautiful and some real Vampire: The Masquarde/Blade/Queen of …

Haha, I did it, young Max! I 100%d this badass game you saw in Kidzone magazine (On The Horror difficulty btw, so, this makes up for some sloppy 100% I did in the last few entries)

glaymore's review of Shadow Man
This review is for the PC (Microsoft Windows) version

Aw shit, Shadow Man Remastered is finally only ten bucks. Am I gonna put myself in deeper debt to relive a 20+ year old game that nobody remembers? You bet your buns I am.

Dearest Shadow Man, I must leave you. Why, I cannot say (cough*Fallout*cough). Where, you cannot know. How I will get there, I haven't decided yet. But one thing I can tell you, any time I hear the wind blow it will whisper the word Deadside. And so let us part with a love that will echo through the ages. ---York

Goddamn this is a grower. I knew so little about it beforehand, so I was expecting a straightforward linear action/horror romp through the deadside. Now I have realised just how big this game is. I am completely smitten.

Another game I have wanted to play for years. It's ok so far, but I am completely in love with his voice. He sounds like Xavier: Renegade Angel.
