Really wanted to get into this but after three episodes, I find that it is not for me. I find myself needing to employ trial and error to know where to go during investigation phases, and there were some points during the trials when I did not know what to do. Maybe I'll pick it up again in the future. Maybe I'll just give the anime adaptation a chance.

I found out yesterday that my ex-wife is seeing someone new and it's serious enough that she wants to introduce him to our son. Despite working pretty hard to, I think relatively successfully embrace that being in a toxic relationship is not good for me, that made me feel pretty cruddy. So I couldn't sleep last night. Instead, I completed the first of the Phoenix Wright trilogies and started on Justice for All. Video games were my escapism from living in an unhappy household.

After playing 1 of 3 games, I know that this is a grate game.

It is a novel with combination of point and click and evidence mechanics.

While I do like this series... I had to find some creative way to play since "Press A: The video game" eventually had a strain on my wrist and I had to take an hour break between each segment

Seriously auto-advance should've been an option and should be customizable, this just kinda sucks to go through

I think I just don't like Japanese visual novels, since everyone else loves this game.

Not having an option to auto-advance text is a crime though.

Trials and Tribulations

  • Nice end to the trilogy. Wraps up stories nicely. Phoenix continues Mia's legacy, the Fey clan's story arc concludes, there really aren't any loose ends.
  • Best girl Adrian Andrews comes back, new best girl Iris Fey is introduced, Gumshoe and Pearl are still precious and must be protected.

  • Gameplay-wise, I don't think it really adds anything that Justice for All didn't include. Still using Magatama's and having more varied solutions to cross-examinations when compared to the first game. JFA introduced playing as characters other than Phoenix, but T&T does more with that idea and uses it to tell its story effectively.

Trilogy
Really nice way to play the first 3 game's in the series. Based on my vague memories, this is where I think the series peaked in general. I wish they did more to enhance the collection. As far as I can tell, they just made it accessible to play without touchscreens and cleaned-up the art. I think it would've been nice if they added a chat log to review statements you might have missed the first time around. Or maybe when replaying cases, add a way to continue from a certain part of the case instead of from the beginning. Based on my replay, I'd say from favorite to least favorite would be 3 (T&T) > 1 (AA) > 2 (JFA). I really enjoyed 3's story and scenarios the most and I think the first game had the best balance and flow of investigations vs courtroom.

Edit
A few things I wanted to mention, but forgot to earlier. Pearl is in these games a lot less than I remember. And even when she is there, she's usually channeling MIa. Godot is a refreshing change from the first two prosecutors because he isn't really concerned with having an undefeated streak, so he isn't really using underhanded tactics as much. He's also an older, experienced lawyer rather than a young prodigy. Spoilers for the last case in the 3rd game: I love Pearl, but she caused everything to go wild. She's the reason everyone went into the mountains and she almost got everyone killed. Godot definitely could have prevented it by letting everyone know about Morgan's plans though. And even if they let everyone go to the mountain, they could have restrained Pearl to prevent her from going wild after channeling Dahlia. Or if Misty had to channel Dahlia herself, they could have arranged it so that Misty was restrained before she channeled Dahlia's spirit. I guess if they did that, then there really wouldn't be a case to solve then. It does take me out of the story a little bit when there are so many characters that could have easily prevented that situation from going down the way that it did.

enter image description here I have been replaying the franchise after 6 years, the 5th case from the first game, "Rise From The Ashes", the one I am replaying now, is one of the longest ones, having tons of fun with the amazing dialogues and whacky moments.

Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney #2

It's all starting to add up. Im really digging this game :)

Can definitely say... was not expecting these turn of events. So we found out who Mia's killer is and who is working with April May. And it's none other than her boss Mr. White, CEO of BlueCorp, a company that specializes in dealing with "information". This guy has built his company from the ground up using blackmailing tactics and holds the police, politicians, and more in the palm of his hands. Accoding to Mia's case files, Mr. White has actually driven numerous people to suicide due to the dirty information he has on them. In fact it was him who leaked information to the press that the police attempted to use a spirit medium (Mia's mother), to locate a killer in an unsolved case many years ago. Mr. White gained this information from Grossberg, Mia's mother's lawyer, who was promised riches. But Grossberg never received those riches. With the police looking into who leaked the information, Mr. White proceeded to blackmail Grossberg for the next 15 years.... which explains why he couldn't serve as the defense attorney for Maya. It all ties together... Mr. White murdered Mia because she was onto him, and was almost finished building a case against him.

Of course now, with Phoenix Wright hot on White's tail... Mr. White accuses Wright of murdering Mia. Now Wright is a prime suspect. And with the police, politicians, lawyers, and more on his side... this case is going to be difficult for Wright to get out of.
