Limbo was Playdead's first indie platformer in their mysterious style, and the style is still on point playing this game these days. As with all their games, the story is never spelled out and left to interpretation, as you are a young boy navigating an extremely hostile world with the 2d platforming. The art style, brutal death animations when you fail, and interpretive story are the best parts of the short game.

I will say after playing Inside (which has PERFECT level design and platforming), some of Limbo's sections were annoying in the later game. Not because I could not figure out a puzzle's mechanics, but because it required extremely split second perfect timing with your jumps and movement. So, you'd have to repeat it many times to get the timing right. I'd prefer trying to figure out a deeper puzzle than the annoying exactly timed jumps.

A short but beautiful and enjoyable puzzle game

I usually don’t like platform games, but the combination of the simple graphics and great controls, together with interesting puzzles, was a great idea. The puzzles gets more and more advanced but not unsolvable, if you have the patience. The game is short but not too short.

Pretty and also meh

This review may not be fair as I had the flu when I played, but I felt underwhelmed by Limbo. I loved the art direction. However, it became tedious how often you died and had to restart at the beginning of a puzzle. For some reason, I just wasn't engaged by the puzzles themselves, and maybe that was the game's …

Unique and Fun

This game was a change of air, I hadn't seen a game like this before. Great side scroller platforming game, very challenging in that area, with a wonderfully creepy world. Given that the main character is a small child adds to the creepiness of this game. Worth a playthrough.

To this day, Limbo remains one of the simplest yet most atmospheric and beautifully crafted worlds

It is somewhat hard for me to review this 3-4 hour-long game, which I first played in 2010 and last night revisited due to Game Pass. It is somewhat hard for me to review this 3-4 hour-long game, which I first played in 2010 and last night revisited due to Game Pass. For all intents and purposes, even though it is an incredibly fluid title (it really plays great), this isn’t the best puzzle platformer out there, not even close. Not only does it suffer from a few design flaws, some of the puzzles are incredibly complicated without any indication given to the player as to how they should proceed to solving them (this obviously becomes less and less of a problem every time you revisit it). The game’s non-existent story almost seems like a poorly conveyed attempt at depth. Even environmentally, the first part of the game is in my opinion markedly different and more appealing than the second. Yet, for all its flaws, I can’t help but rate Limbo as a 5 star experience.

This is one of the very rare instances in which a game is so atmospheric that it transcends the usual video game boundaries. I honestly thought I wouldn’t see it the same way I did in 2010 - as we grow older, we gradually calcify, over-exposure makes us more resistant to genuine ‘wow’ moments in entertainment and, consequently, we become more critical (maybe even cynical?) in regards to our own gaming enjoyment. However, with Limbo, I found myself feeling the exact same thing I did over a decade ago. While I was playing the game, my involvement was once again total and genuine. There’s just something about this hazy, bleak, nightmare-like world that removes you from your own surroundings and plunges you deep in the heart of it. After finishing it, I kept thinking about it. I dreamt about it. When I woke up, it was still there. There’s no philosophical message here, no deeper meaning to be dug. At its core, Limbo is and will always be one of the simplest games ever made in story, aesthetics and gameplay (aside from movement, there are only literally 2 buttons to be used). Yet, to me, it still stands as one of the most hypnotic experiences ever created in gaming, and one that I think everyone should try at least a couple of times.

I replayed this recently and realized I hadn't written a review for it the first time around. Then I realized I didn't really have much to say. It's creepy, minimalist platformer that's just the right amount of challenging and uses environmental storytelling in a way that finely balanced between evocative and literal, and gestures more than it clearly indicates in a way that I really like. The one exception is also my one problem with the game, which is the close friend/romantic interest. She (they? I feel like they're coded as female but it's not like there's a lot to go on) feels pretty shoehorned in to provide some sort of concrete goal and resolution, in a way that feels very mid-2000s flash game. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed plenty of those games, but it's cliche, and I think the game would be stronger without it.

Winner of so many awards and an all time favorite game for many, do you need any more advice on should you pick this up? If you indeed need more in depth review follow along.

For starters, this is quite a unique game which might qualify as environment puzzler(?). Spoiler: This is a survival game which puts you in the shoes of a child who is running from wild creatures featuring spiders, flooding etc. The best and most frustrating part of the game was the magnet used in the environment. Really liked the concept, but where it failed was there wasn't enough hint as to how to proceed (took about 20 mins here). Another feature to add would be this is the first game I have played which performs seemless scene transformation. (Developers reading this please contact me as I learning to build games of my own).

The only drawback (if I was being critical) is the lack or confusion of a story presented here. Another spoiler alert: Maybe its just me but I did not understand why the hell this player was running to meet a girl? or survival? I assumed it was survival and that would have been fine but you can literally see this same girl sometime in the game before but are unable to reach her. Bit of work here would been awesome, that is not to say this game is not worth your time. Average time to complete would be less than 4hrs, and please support the dev by buying this game from whereever you prefer. Cheers!

LIMBO

Great plataform puzzle game, very intense granting hours of fun. Perfectly gameplay if played with a xbox controller.

Nicely historytelling without a single cutcene or text. Awesome final!

Incredible, absolutely incredible. The art direction is extraordinary, the puzzles are brilliant, and there is even very real depth in the story (almost unheard of for a casual game).
