SWAT 4, despite being a small puzzle-based somewhat linear game, revels in its minor details. The one thing that separates this game from similar ones like Rainbow Six or Ghost recon is not the extra layers of realism, bulky movement or the incredibly complex control scheme, its the details. Since your police squadron of athletes and bodybuilders who could be taken down by a single bullet, know nothing about the situation other than a quick briefing before a probable slaughter, the game requires a show don't tell scheme. Due to that entire narratives are weaved by this game's incredible ambiance and minor subtleties. The Noir streets of the city, links to human trafficking engagements through photos, weapons dealers selling illegal calibers shown by the markings on the back of their magazines. Criminality in this game is a knitted cloth, connected with each other in small ways. Sometimes the weaves within the knit lead back to your organization.
An example of this is the Jewelry story heist. A criminal syndicate is currently robbing the DuPless Wholesale diamond center holding multiple civilians hostage. At the end it seems like a clean job, until you follow the games subtle environment hints and find …

An example of this is the Jewelry story heist. A criminal syndicate is currently robbing the DuPless Wholesale diamond center holding multiple civilians hostage. At the end it seems like a clean job, until you follow the games subtle environment hints and find out that the DuPless group runs illegal child labor rings in South Africa. It's somewhat clear that the police system knows this and the owners paid them to ignore this issue. You are part of the problem, but not exactly. You're a cog in the system, a pawn in a chess game, working towards a noble goal while deviating massively from it. The devil truly hides in the details when it comes to SWAT 4.
Like most games outside my top 5, this one desperately needs a replay. Have a nice day!

This game is very amazing but its at its best in the early levels {especially the Fairfax Residence}. All other levels are also great but no in between saves will take a toll and a few bugs in the later levels which meant playing the whole level from beginning again and again. It does frustrated me. But other than that really an amazing game and it got me into tactical shooter genre! Online Co op is also just pure awesomeness.
I've been a fan of earlier iterations of the series (particularly SWAT 2) and been taking pot shots at this past week looking to release the spoon on a tactical shooter. Vanilla game is definitely a mixed bag. But I havent actually seen a game like this (beyond Swat 3) its a thinking shooter in the sense that things can happen and the map can change a bit as far as where enemy/hostage placement is and its fun to go through missions several times as if they were practice drills. but god, the UI and control scheme for giving commands to team mater is AWFUL
going to try Elite Force Mod https://www.moddb.com/mods/swat-elite-force
Playing Co-op with Jason. About to start the night club mission.
