Disgaea is a strategy-RPG in a similar vein with the beloved Final Fantasy Tactics series. However, unlike Final Fantasy, Disgaea doesn’t take itself seriously. The story is light, absurd and full of meta jokes which poke fun at the genre itself.

The gameplay is deep and complex with layers upon layers of mechanics which you need to master to truly conquer the game and is extremely rewarding once you get the hang of the game mechanics, which itself is a daunting task, since there are several aspects which are either inadequately explained or totally left unexplained. The visuals are simply charming. While the 3D backdrops are bland and featureless, the character sprites are all crafted with care. Combined with top-notch music, the presentation stands tall among its peers even nearly a decade later.

It can be a complete nightmare for clueless newcomers because it demands you to learn its systems in-depth so that you can break them in your favor.
