Dear reader:

If you're looking at this, you might be interested in Soul Nomad. But maybe you aren't certain yet, so I will give you a list of bullet points, as you do.

Do you:

  • Like strategy RPGs?
  • Enjoy witty dialogue?
  • Like JRPGs in general?
  • Want to hear Yuri Lowenthal swear ?
  • Like Disgaea, but want something a smidgen more traditional, or "adult"?
  • Think monster girls are awesome?
  • Want access to the single bleakest ending in NIS history?
  • (and/or) like Asagi?

Then boy howdy, do I have news for you! Pick up this game, and you [probably] won't be disappointed! The story is the shining jewel here, and yeah, it can be cliche at times, but when you're a silent ginger protagonist with your stupid cow of a best friend and a crazy jackass in your head making sarcastic comments about everything, you take what you can get. Music is good enough that I bought the arranged soundtrack when it came out, and then again recently. There are some things you can do to [mostly] break the game over your knee, but it wouldn't be an NIS game if there weren't something a little unbalanced about it.

After your first …

After your first playthrough, you have a bonus "demon path" you can take. And I, for one, enjoy dark stories. I've read enough t****** p***, rxxx fxxxxxxxx, and bad to mediocre fanfiction that I don't find much surprising. But this shook me. Maybe it was the time it came out, maybe it was the content of the ending, or maybe it was just... the bleak way it's presented. Who knows?

Anywho, if anything above feels like it might hook you, I suggest spending the 20 bucks to pick it up on Steam or Switch or wherever. And I'll hopefully induct you as the newest member of the Phoenix Spaulding club.
