Okay, so, I picked up the standard version and played for a couple of hours yesterday.
It's honestly quite fun. About as chaotic as Crash Team Racing in some ways, but controls well. I wish I could remap the buttons to be more similar to Mario Kart, but there are only two control options and they're not all that different from each other.
There is...a lot going on. Ton of different modes and events. I'm a bit confused about the Starter Circuit, which is like the "story mode" (without a story). It's what you play through to unlock parts, upgrades, etc. All of the other racers have usernames as if you're playing online, but it doesn't do any matchmaking. I don't know if it's ghost data or what?
There's the local freeplay, which is where you can play tracks alone (where the CPU all still have usernames), or play with a friend. Unfortunately it's only 2P, and you also don't unlock anything by playing this mode. There's also Private Track where you can invite your friends.
As you play through the Starter Circuit, you unlock other modes: Regulated multiplayer and Ranked multiplayer. Regulated puts everyone at the same level so that it's more skill-based. There are a ton of different events happening, where you complete challenges to earn rewards like upgrade items, and the Season Tour, which I haven't unlocked yet.
You get upgrade parts for your racers, so you level them up to boost their stats. There are crew members who can be similarly upgraded.
Overall, this is already packed with content. Since I just go the Standard version, I started with Mickey, Donald, and my choice from a small selection of characters, so I picked my girl Belle, of course. Everyone else can be unlocked through gameplay. There is a shop and three different types of currencies (all of which I've been getting via different types of gameplay). With the other two versions, you get more currency with your purchase, but I don't think there's an outright way to buy them with real money in the shop unless I missed it.
