At the time, I did not give R.U.S.E. anywhere near the credit it deserved. It was one of the first games that introduced me to the RTS genre, and although I loved playing it as a child, I never fully appreciated just how good and unique it actually was.

Since the game returned to Steam, I have been playing it again constantly. I normally try not to let nostalgia affect how I judge a game, but replaying R.U.S.E. has only made me appreciate it more. It is now easily my favourite RTS game of all time and possibly my favourite game in general.

The ruse system gives the game its own identity. Hiding units, creating fake armies, using decoy buildings and misleading your opponent makes battles feel like more than simply producing the strongest units. ruse cards are just so fucking good.

The different factions, large battlefields and variety of units give the game a huge amount of replayability. Every match can play out differently depending on your strategy, and successfully tricking an opponent or launching a perfectly planned attack never stops being satisfying.

R.U.S.E. is one of the most unique strategy games I have ever played, especially considering how much the game means to me now.

A childhood favourite that became my favourite RTS of all time.
