Dead Space Beginner's Guide
Some tips for the handful of people who might not have played this game.
==General==
- Dismembering limbs is the most efficient way to kill normal-sized enemies.
- On Easy i managed to get 95 upgrades (Power Nodes) by mostly using the Plasma Cutter and backtracking a few times.
- Roughly speaking you can fully upgrade the stasis module and at least three weapons.
- Upgrading HP generally isn't worth it because you can only heal with Medical Packs and they heal you instantly too.
- One point of HP costs three Power Nodes (30.000) which is as much as you would get from selling 6 Large (heals all points), 12 Medium (heals 2 points) or 30 Small (heals 1 point) Medical Packs.
- Upgrading air is even more worthless. You will probably never run out and even if you do a Small Air Can costs 1000 (sells for 500) vs 10.000 for a Power Node.
- Stasis can be refilled for free at various points so upgrading the Stasis Module is a solid investment.
- Also, enemies in stasis are easier to kill and don't harm you, ultimately saving you money on ammo and healing too.
- Upgrading HP or weapon capacity refills all HP/ammo for free.
==RIGs==
You should buy new RIGs the moment you can. RIG upgrades carry over. Remember to save credits in advance so you can buy them right away:
Name (Damage Resistance | Inventory Slots): Available first - cost
- Standard Miner RIG (5 | 13): First store - 10.000
- Intermediate Engineer RIG (10 | 17): Chapter four - 20.000
- Intermediate Miner RIG (15 | 20): Chapter seven - 35.000
- Advanced Engineer RIG (20 | 25): Chapter 10 - 60.000
==Weapons==
- Plasma Cutter: The best weapon against most enemies. Easily removes limbs but requires precise aiming.
- Pulse Rifle: The most traditional weapon. Stops most enemies from charging, has a bigger clip and fires more rounds. Not as economical as the Plasma Cutter.
- Ripper: A chainsaw that floats two meters in front of you. The most economical weapon if you can master it.
- Force Gun: Imagine a shotgun that blasts air instead. Knocks enemies down and obliterates small enemies.
- Line Gun: A big Plasma Cutter with slow projectiles. Great against crowds and Lurkers (triple tentacle guys).
- Contact Beam: Sort of a big Pulse Rifle that fires slowly. Alternate fire is a big Force Gun..
- Flamethrower: Sadly this thing is completely useless, even against small enemies.
You can carry four weapons at a time which makes sense because there are four kinds of threats. Recommended weapons for each:
- Normal encounters (1-3 enemies): Any (except the Flamethrower). Use Ripper or Plasma Gun to save money.
- Crowds (4+ enemies): Line Gun or Pulse Rifle.
- Small enemies: Force Gun.
- Bosses: Contact Beam or Pulse Rifle.
I used the Plasma Cutter, Force Gun and Line Gun. Except against the endboss when i remembered i had a fully upgraded Contact Beam.
